Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look Keo or Keo 2 Pedals....will they squeak

Hey Guys:

Currently I have knock off Look pedals and cleats. They will not stop squeaking. They squeak on every pedal revolution. I have oiled them, put baby powder on them and I am about to p!ss on them. They squeak like crazy and I cannot get it to stop. I thinking of upgrading to the Look Keo or Keo 2 but have heard they squeak as well sometimes. I love the pedal design and do not want to switch to something completely new. Can someone who has these pedals give me some an opinion if this squeaking will go away if I upgrade to the real thing instead of the knock off. Appreciate your help.

Also if you like them, which do you recommend the Keo or Keo 2 and why.

Thanks,

Claude

I have the Keo classic and Max 2, no squeaks out of either of them. About 2000 miles on the classics and 5000 on the max.

Before you waste money, take a candle or a crayon and rub the flat part of the pedals with it.

This has a very good chance of solving your problem.

Go try it and report your results.

I had a smidgen of tar on a cleat a few weeks ago which caused a squeak on my Looks.

Have had Keo Classic for about 5000km, just got some new Keo Max 2, only did about 150km so far. Not a squeak at all.

I have two pairs of Look Keo classic and they make no noise. I just wish that they would be weighted so that they are oriented with the clip side up when getting going.

The cleats on my Keo Sprints squeak when it's really humid or wet. Plastic on plastic does that. Spray some lube on the contact points in front, top, and back of the pedal. Silicone is good, even Armor-all will work in a pinch. Be careful though. If you land on your ass I will deny everything.

I have used the Keo and the Keo 2's. After the cleats gets worn in, they both start to squeak. I put a little dab of grease on the contact points on the pedal and the cleats and the squeaks go away.

As for which one I prefer, I like the Keo 2 better. The metal plates lasts longer and they feel more secure when I clip in.

I have the Blades and I love them to death.

What you have to worry about Looks are their CLEATS. They were out soooooooooooooooooooo fast that they give you those covers. I haven't walked for more than a km on my cleats and they're mangled.

The Keo cleats with the no-slip grip inserts squeaked so bad I threw them in the garbage! Regular Keo Bio cleats make no noises on my Keo II pedals.

I've never had mine squeek in thousands of miles on two different models.

Mine Look 2 Keo Max don't squeak, and they're generally nice pedals. I just wish they wouldn't flip upside down when you pull out. It makes clipping back in something of a pain. Maybe they're a fix for that, anyone know of one?

My old Delta Looks and compatible Dura Ace pedals would squeak when the cleats wore down so the metal bolts rubbed on the cleat platform. I had to spray water from my bottle on them to shut them up. Only lasted about 15 minutes. With the Keos and the multi-material cleats I have had no squeaking whatsoever.
