How much to stop riding?
An offshoot of my "cheapskate" thread which is somewhat derailed since the majority of replies are not about cycling anymore...
If Eddy Merckx rolled out of the Belgian Ardennes at the beginning of prime cycling season and told you that he'd pay you to NOT ride a bicycle for the next six months, how much would he have to offer you to uphold your end of the deal? This is assuming you are healthy and looking forward to riding, as opposed to being in traction from riding off a cliff or waiting for artificial limbs after losing your original ones to necrotizing fasciitis...

I've gone several months without cycling "for free" on a couple occasions due to medical issues, so 6 months isn't all that long.
But for the purposes of this discussion, let's go with $100,000. That would allow me to take 6 months off the bicycle to do some of the other things I like to do, and then I could spend the next 2 or 3 years cycling and travelling, without the bother of having to work. That would make up for taking 6 months off.

$3000 tax free, or $4000 taxed. I can substitute jogging fairly easily and use the money to buy a great bike for the next season. Add in no jogging as well, price shoots up to $10k tax free, perhaps more. That amount of money tends to be pocket change for a large majority of internet posters though who seem to be millionaires. Meh.

What ever it would cost for me to buy a motorcycle and all the associated safety gear. In other words, what ever is necessary to get me into another obsession.

I'd do it for a relatively small sum of money.
My swimming and running could use some work anyway... and then there's always the gym...
I'd expect at least a new bike out of the deal.

You are far more likely to have somebody offer you a million dollars to not play your guitar.

At least you're honest about it.

I have time. No ride today, too much rain and Jack The Ripper fog outside. Plus the Pcad/Pender duo is going to another blues jam to pummel the audience by slaughtering songs like 'Thrill is Gone' tonight. I take sadistic pleasure in doing this.
