Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've been under the impression for quite awhile that they are the same tire with a different name and color.

any single online retailer or Michelins home page will explain...

these kind of questions are pointless on a forum

Let's try and re-explain the question then: KNOWING that Michelin's web site uses a different set of words for both products... KNOWING that of course all on-line retailers just copy what's on Michelin's web... KNOWING all this... Does anybody KNOW if there are REAL differences between the 2 products?

That was the (not so pointless) question.

I would be damn suprised if anyone on this forum could tell the difference between a $50 tire and its successor by riding on them. Most read what the companies and other rec riders have to say and create the differences in their heads. Maybe 5% here could actually ride at the level of that tire (53-11 not included)

I bought a pair of wheels from ebay for $80 that had pro race tires on them, barely used. I can't say the difference between the pro race and the pro2, but they are damn nice tires. That being said I've heard they wear pretty quickly so they are really intended primarily for racing.

I think the difference is that the ironman comes with the option of a 650C tire
