Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tires: Cost vs Quality?

Hello,

What is the relation between the cost of a tire and how well it performs? I just saw some tires made by Cyclepro that seemed pretty nice and were half the price of many other tires I've seen so I was just wondering.

Thanks.

Generally, I think as cost goes up, the tire weight goes down for people interested in racing.
Some of the cheaper heavier tires have alot more rubber, and subsequently last alot longer, as they are better for training.

Armadillos are a good example. They seem to last forever, and aren't as expensive as others. But, they weigh quite a bit more.

That's just my general opinion.

Tire performance are described in many different way.
* Wearablity * Traction * Ride feel * Puncture resistance * Weight * Rolling resistance * Type of bead(if it's a clincher) etc.
Genrally, I mean in a big picture, more you pay, more better features you get. On the other hand there are just as much or even more exceptions. If you look into right places with open mind, there are so many inexpensive great quality tires, specially store brand tires. Well know expensive tires often go on sale for very good price, so you can't just compare the retail price also. Word of mouth from people acutally used them such as this forum or review sites are great place to get real experienced opinion.
