Best Bike Shoes Under $150 for First Timer
Took my new SuperSix out on a long ride and I feel it's definitely time to get bike shoes and clipless pedals. I don't think I can go on another long ride with the regular old sneakers.
So what are good but relatively inexpensive shoes? I see the top sellers seem to be Shimano and Peal Izumi.

My LBS recommended Shimanos for me.
I have funny shaped feet and struggle to find regular shoes that fit properly - yet the Shimanos are perfect.
I've had a few occasions to ride over 200 miles in them, without once taking them off. No problems.

I've had my Shimano R106's for about 6 months now and really like them. I had the low-end Shimano's for 5 years until I bought these and the difference was like night and day. Super still sole and I like the velcro and ratchet combination. I found mind in the "returns" bin at Performance for $90. MSRP is right at the $150 mark but a quick google search found a few deals.
By the way...this is one of the few cycling purchases that I'll buy in the store. Shoe fit is so important that I'll go try on a variety of shoes to make sure everything fits the way I want it to and then try to get the best deal I can from the LBS. If I pay a little over what I'd pay online, that's okay...I got good value for the extra bit.

If you can find them in your size I love my Shimano R132L's. Got mine for under $100 but I think retail was $180 when they first came out. Carbon sole, very nice.

I've had good luck with two pairs of Performance brand shoes. I think the first pair (simple 3-velcro straps) was about $50. Second pair is Performance's Scattante brand with 2-velcro plus ratchet that I got for around $65 on their clearance table ... I think they "list" at $150 but you can usually see them around $100 before special coupons/sales. I do like the ratchet for getting them correctly snugged down whether I have thick winter wool socks or thin summer socks.
Neither are fancy (although the Scattantes try to be), but I have no problem wearing them for hilly (5k-7k ft climbing) centuries.
I agree about going to the store and trying shoes on. Cycling shoes do not fit and are not sized like street shoes.

I just picked up the Bontrager Race Lite in White: Have received really good reviews and are super light and have a refreshing look. https://www.bikeradar.com/gear/catego...shoes-12-34942

I have bizarre shaped feet and need roomy shoes - Shimano fit the bill for me. I previously had Carnac and they were good too, but some shoes are too narrow, or the toe box isn't right... you really need to try some on.

I'm loving my Specialized shoes https://www.specialized.com/us/en/ftr...hoes/eliteroad But, I was able to try on a few different models in a few different sizes at a LBS to make sure I got something that would make my feet happy.

I've been riding on my Shimano R086's for the last couple years and their a solid shoe. I haven't ridden on Sidi's or anything high end so i can't compare them. I spent about $80 for them off Nashbar and for the price i have no complaints.

I had the Shimano R086's and they were great but a tad too big. I replaced them after a year with the Mavic Avenir's that were on sale. They work fine, a little snug, nothing to write home about. Should have got R086's that fit instead.
