We, men, are so screwed
I am gonna have to quit using chamois cream then

Finally! An explanation for the whole "leg shaving" thing!

God damn, so it turns out that those pickup truck-driving neanderthals who scream "***" at passing cyclists might be right.
|
Male cyclists have long heard horror stories about hardcore riding wreaking havoc on their reproductive health, and a study by UCLA researchers introduces a new villain: chamois cream, and the possibility that it will give you big breasts. |

Stay away from anything containing propylparaben, methylparaben or any other paraben and you’ll be fine." |

Interesting but almost no chamois creams have parabens anymore. Yes - I know the owner,but I still love Enzo's ButtonHole because it doesn't have parabens.
Fwiw - they quote Mike Zerinskas at the end of the article. mike used to race on PSIMET and was a frequent poster on here. He moved to Colorado and started a team that we get to sponsor - PSIMET/Zilla. He started balmco recently and has donea great job as an authority for chamois cream, embro, etc. |
Lest the facts get in the way of a headline in this age of Fox News:
Cycling Causes Man-boobs |
Manboobs = aero

I keep hearing on the forum about chamois creams. All kinds of mysterious goops in jars. I have never used anything but Body Glide, a stick that looks like deoderant. Popular with runners for all kinds of chafing. Nobody here seems to know anything about it. Works great for me. Just remember to apply it both on the pad (no way it is really a chamois; why keep calling it that?) and the body. Completely innocuous formula. I wonder how come it is not more popular and discussed more frequently. |

I'm pretty sure this was discussed here a week or two ago when the study first came out.
The Wired article is actually one of the better ones I've seen on the topic. They make it pretty clear that this is a very preliminary study, that it really applies to pro cyclists (not amateurs), that chamois cream probably isn't a causal agent, that cyclists in the study didn't develop gynecomastia, and that the study did not find elevated levels of estrogen -- only a precursor (estriadol). Wired is actually debunking a lot of the bad reporting of the study in question. |
I dunno. I use chamois cream but have always been a "carpenter's dream", flat as a board. Oh, there I go again, messing with those silly little statistics.
|
interesting topic :lol:
