2012 Caad8 6 vs '11 Specialized Allez Elite

So after missing out on a mint/used Caad9, I've been perusing my lbs locales in hopes of finding a deal. And it looks like the best I could do is a bit under retail with a break on accessories from one particular shop.

So my question is, given your druthers, would you opt for a 2012 Cannondale Caad8 6 or a 2011 Specialized Allez Elite? Both are within $100 of each other and both felt pretty good riding. And both obviously fit me. I'll be going back next week to ride them back to back again and hopefully make a choice. How do the components, wheels, etc compare? Any owners out there that can provide feedback?

I do fancy the 10 speed Tiagra components on the Caad8 but that's about the only thing I'm certain of. This will be my first bike. Opinions?

I have the 2011 Allez Elite Compact, and it's an excellent bike. Specialized is charging a bit more for the E5 frame this year.

That said, I think you'd do very well with either bike.

Have you had any issues with the bike in the time you've owned it? I appreciate the reply!

I'd go with the Caad8. The 10 speed Tiagra is a plus and probably easier to sell if you ever decide to change components.

What kind of issues can one expect on bikes that you mentioned, aside the fit? Not much. If you cannot decide, pick the one which you think looks cooler.

No problems with the Allez. The "4-way stem" is a little odd, but not a big deal once you figure it out.

I personally don't care about 9sp vs 10sp. I'm planning to keep the bike for a long time, and I don't think getting 9sp bits will be a problem any time soon.

I think the 4 way stem is pure genius. It's like 4 stems in one.

You can't go wrong with either bike. They are both rock solid.

Ride them both and then choose the one that makes you feel the best....because really this come down to your personal preference.

Both Specialized and Cannondale are top notch bike manufacturers so you'll be good with either decision you make.
