My riding partner is killing me on his new bike!!!!!!!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My riding partner is killing me on his new bike!!!!!!!

I am fat and I am fairly slow; but I used to be faster than my buddy on his flat bar road bike. Apparently he got tired of it and is making me really push as he rides his new (used) Specialized Roubaix!!!! On the other hand it is cool to watch a former runner switch to cycling and fall in love with it. Oh well if I want to get faster, I must ride with people who will push me.

Runners make pretty good cyclists right from the get-go. Don't expect to smoke them even in the early phases unless they weren't great runners to begin with, or you're a decently fast cyclist.

Dont worry, you'll be alright, his push will help you...I was in your friends shoes, my riding buddy is way leaner and in good shape. I always thought "will i ever catch him?" "will i ever be relaxed at his pace"...ALOT of training paid big time. Now i can push him around.

Its your turn.

I picked up a new riding partner at a group ride the other week. He has only been riding for 2 weeks and I can hardly keep up with him. Come to find out he is some nationally ranked marathon runner! I am away for a couple of weeks on vacation and you can bet that I am training extra hard so that I can hang with him upon my return. My only hope is that he does not train as hard as I do while I'm away

Lol, I helped my friend and riding buddy buy a new road bike. He was eating my dust when I was riding on MY (Roubaix)Ruby. Man bought himself a Specialized Tarmac and took off like a bat outta hell. Guess who's getting left in the dust now?

Moral of the story - you need a Tarmac to beat his Roubaix...

It is all good, actually we are now more of an even match. All of those years of running has built him a hell of a cariovascular base. Rides that we would finish at an avg if 14 or so are now coming in at 16. I just cannot ride away from him at will anymore. It is really fun to watch him get into it plus I get to spend his money for him and it does not cost me a cent
