Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Custom bike wall mount

I've been searching and searching for a creative way to mount my and my wife's bike to the wall in our small apartment. I feel uncomfortable having the frame either rest or being clamped onto any of the commercial wall or rack mounts, and I'm just not that crazy about the wheel hook style either. I'm fortunate enough to work at a boarding school with a blacksmith's workshop. So, I went over and played with the plasma cutter, grinders, and welder for a couple of hours. Hope you all enjoy. Hope the pictures are large enough. This was the result:

Since we both have Specialized bikes, I went with the "S" logo. The plasma cutter was great with that rough look of the "S" logo.

Nice!

I'd like to be left alone with a plasma cutter and my cats for a few minutes.

Discipline, kitties! Discipline!

I'm kidding.

Nice. BTW, your wife's looks cool with the stem slammed. Yours looks like it seats you a bit more upright.

That's the "BG Fit" for ya from the LBS.... she's not that psyched about it. We think she needs a longer stem, she's short but we both think her upper body is too cramped when she's riding.

I like it! Nice touch with the Specialized S. The only thing I would have done differently is instead of using the seat and handlebar as resting points is use the wheels. That way the supports could be level. Easier to install and might look better when the bikes are not hanging.

Thanks everyone. We're pleased with how it came out. I think I'm going to make a bigger/stronger one for my cross bike, which would be the Kona logo. It would have to be one that hangs straight from one wheel since we are running out of room in the apartment! I need bigger place so I can buy more bikes!
