The UNofficial Tour de France Thread (no spoilers)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No spoilers in here is fine... just potentially difficult.

There's a lot of stuff to talk about in the Tour that isn't related to who won.
Tactics?
Gear?
Upcoming strategy/predictions?
Commentary on the course?

I did happen to notice yesterday that the Cannondale SS Evo 2 Red is about $3,000 cheaper than my other dream bike... and it has my colors (black and green).
Come on PCH... where's my giant check?

What's up with those yellow helmets that don'e appear to have vents? Are they screened to allow airflow, yet keep insects out?

Please, pardon my ignorance, but why the break away? At every stage I see group of riders break for 2-3 or 5-6 min, and then they caught by peloton anyway. Why do they break away, only to get a sprint finish in the middle of the stage?

Of course I know its easy for me being in Taiwan; the time difference means we get to watch each stage live from 8 pm to midnight every night....sweet!

Many tactical/strategic and otherwise relevant discussions are possible w/o divulging the winner of the day's stage.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't last year's experiment this thread, TdF for the 41 (spoiler warning)? Seems simple enough to give people what they want; a thread in the 41 to discuss the TdF but also have the warning so those that haven't seen the day's stage can choose to be spoiled or not.

Just my $0.02

Did anyone find out what caused that big crash on stage 6? The news stories I'm finding just talked about some of the injuries but nothing on why/how it was caused.

the idea of watching sky smash everyone to pieces for two more weeks does not seem particularly interesting to me.

also i always thought the K in Christian Knees was silent. But some of the announcers are pronouncing it. (Ka-nees)

I know average speed doesn't mean anything...but they announced the average speed for today's stage was 25mph. Damn.

Well I started one before and they moved it to pro....so I had to do this. I prefer talking about that days stage, going to the pro racing forum is just asking too much of the 41 troll

i think liquidgas and bmc can give team sky a run for their money. I am excited to get into the mountain stages and hope to see some contention for the polka dot jersey.

That means the announcers could mispronounce some of the French stuff and I wouldn't know!
