Sudden Silence - What the heck?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sudden Silence - What the heck?

A couple months ago put on a new chain (Dura Ace 10-speed) and rear cassette (Shimano CS-5700). Everything worked okay, but the drivetrain was a little noisy after the change. RD adjustments did no help. Today I decided to pull the cassette, just to see if there was anything obvious. Everything seemed to be in order. Reassembled everything and went for a ride. Drivetrain is back to being nice and quiet.

I'm happy, but baffled as to what was "fixed" by merely taking it apart and reassembling.

Cassette lockring may have been too loose the first time.

Seemed tight, but didn't use a torque wrench. I'm going with this since nothing else seemed to have changed.

I think you should take it apart again to see if you get a different result.

I have always documented this type of successful repair as PFM.

Watch him put it together and it becomes noisy again.

Maybe the OP installed it with the spacers not in the correct order. Or maybe he forgot the 1mm spacer when installing it the first time and magically was able to add it the second time.

That's the desired outcome, right?
