Safe way to hang carbon fiber bike on the wall?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Safe way to hang carbon fiber bike on the wall?

I heard about people getting cracks on their frame by storing their rides improperly. Will this mount type be safe for a carbon fiber road frame?

Yes. As will just about any rack provided you don't drop the bike on it.

Where did you hear this from? How are they storing the bikes "improperly"?

And, yes, that mount will work...CF or not.

if you hang your carbon bike by clamping it into an ultra-torque death-vice, then it may break.

My friend stored his CF bike suspended from seatpost and frame got a crack out of it.

Perhaps if you didn't have the seatpost inserted the correct amount and you tried to mount the bike vertically (seatpost horiz) I could see that as being a problem. More likely he clamped the seatpost too tightly.

Think about this: What puts more stress on the frame, hanging < 20 lbs from the seatpost, or a > 200 lb Freddly Road Warrior riding it?

Your friend is doing it wrong.

You're overthinking.

It's not that hard.

No. Unless you meant it removed a crack. In that case, still no.

Yeah I'm going to jump on the bandwagon say no possible way.

Even during normal riding every time you hit a bump that seatpost probably sees between 500 to 1000 pounds of force.

Cant imagine how hanging 20 pounds off it could crack it.

That will put a crazy amount of strain on your front rim, upwards of 20 lbs.

I store my bike in a massive box of foam peanuts.

Be careful putting the drive side down in the foam. A friend of mine did that and his chain rubbed a hole in the carbon.

Do you store the box vertically or horizontally? Maybe suspended from cables? Is there metal cage outside the box?

Stop the Madness!

At the end of the world there'll be roaches and CF bike frames.

+1. I do not understand the fear of using a traditional workstand w/carbon post. Just be careful.

If you leave it stored that way too long, the resin will slowly migrate away from the fibers at the bottom of the frame, weakening the bottom bracket, and ultimately leading to failure in that critcial high stress area.

For the love of god, I hope you were being sarcastic.
