buying "pro team" gear

Ok, so I know this is frowned upon but it just so happens that a lot of the good deals right now are on team kit gear. Bib shorts, Jersey's etc. Does anyone regularly ride in these bibs etc and find them comfortable? I mostly ride solo so not to concerned with what people think

uncrx2003 07-04-12 04:12 PM

Yup, sporting my BMC kits all the time

bakeram4 07-04-12 04:52 PM

could you tell me how are they or it frowned upon? im new still around here

caloso 07-04-12 04:54 PM

It's only frowned upon if you show up to a race in the kit of a team to which you do not belong.

No?

bakeram4 07-04-12 05:02 PM

ooook so what do you wear lbs or a bike shop gear of your choosing?

shelbyfv 07-04-12 05:11 PM

It's hard to imagine any team kit would be cheaper than plain black shorts and simple jersey. A team jersey would be ok with black shorts but a matching kit would be too much unless you are on the team. If you are new, slow or overweight, the more subdued your clothing, the better.

For a race? If you're unattached, you should ride in a generic, non-team jersey.

But for just riding around? Wear whatever.

Ebay. Cheap chinese clothing in team kit style... knock-offs of the real thing. Cheap material, crap padding... don't wear them...

Most guys around here wearing team kits get passed by people like me ... when riding on a 28lb cruiser ... =)

bakeram4 07-04-12 05:21 PM

thanks a lot got it now

Same here, I see a team kit, I I go into overdrive!
;)

uncrx2003 07-04-12 05:36 PM

Skinsuit - check
Sleeveless jersey - check
Team kit - check

I wear whatever I want

shelbyfv 07-04-12 05:38 PM

There you go. Velo Gator is able to pull off the pro kit look despite being an overweight senior like me! That's because he can drop 99% of us on the hills....

Ghost Ryder 07-04-12 05:45 PM

I'm guilty of having more sleeveless jerseys than I do the sleeved variety.

Has he issued the restraining order yet?

He moves around too much for me to keep up. Last sighting was celebrating Canada day.

shelbyfv 07-04-12 06:06 PM

OK, so that's not VG in the pics. Sorry, guess I missed something. Someone post the Lampre guy in case OP still has questions.

Yes

fishymamba 07-04-12 07:04 PM

I got a BMC jersey for cheap a while back. I don't even like BMC, but I still got the jersey because it fit me really well and it was cheap. A couple people have yelled Cadel at me but I don't care. :D

thenomad 07-04-12 07:14 PM

I try to keep it simple while still looking for deals. Black shorts are good but a simple two color job works just fine.

I have a few design jerseys I got many years ago, like the Primal kind that celebrate beer or countries, that I just dont wear unless I have to anymore.
Full kit stuff still seems over the top until I no longer have flab.

I stick with simple plain stuff anymore and let my legs do the talking.
