Garmin Edge/Strava Users, Do you pause?
I usually ride to my halfway point, rest 5-10 mins, then ride back. Lately it seems as if Strava has been screwing up my rests and showing me as moving low speeds (0.5-3.5mph) for my whole resting time as opposed to 0mph, even though I try to stay still to not screw up my average speed.
Do you guys hit pause on your Garmin devices or even the Strava app to prevent stuff like this, or would it screw up the speeds/time/etc more than the low moving speeds you get when you stop to rest? http://f.cl.ly/items/1Y40452b423W321...38.07%20PM.png |
I have given up on auto pause with my 500, it pauses me on climbs constantly even when I am going 4 mph and I have auto pause set on 1.5 mph. I have been having some issues with it recording segments so I'm trying it this way for the time being.
It is also showing 0% grade sometimes on climbs that are 15-20%. |

"This way" being hitting pause on your Garmin?

I had an issue with my autopause on my garmin where it would go on and off when stopped...sometimes I'll manually pause....I just let it go for the most part, now that I know my level of fitness and train using other aspects of the upload I'm not so concerned with the avg speed anymore.

LowCel: Are you using the cadence sensor, or just GPS to determine your speed? If it's GPS, then the speed won't be accurate enough (especially on a tough ascent) to use the auto pause feature.

With my 705 I had no problems using the auto pause feature, the 500 isn't nearly as accurate / reliable. |
My eTrex 30 does not have the pause feature or the auto-pause feature, and it does show GPS drift, but the apparent moving speed when stopped is very low and it is correctly interpreted by Strava as a stop. I have it set to one point per 2 seconds, which results in 0.1-0.3 mph drift.
You should see more drift if your device is connected to a power meter. By default, Edge 500/800 is in a "smart recording mode", meaning that you have longer intervals between points if you're stopped. When you connect to a power meter, it starts recording one point per second. |
I use autopause at 2mph with my 705, no issues.
