mechanics - 10 speed shifter/derailleur problem (SRAM/Shminao)
I bought Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 10sp Bar End Shifters with drop bars for a touring bike to match medium cage SRAM Apex 10 Speed Rear derailleur on a Surly Cross Check frame.
First problem was the cable was too short!
Had to buy a tandem cable.
A bigger problem is that the shifts do not seem to provide enough travel for the derailleur to shift gears.
It will only cover about 6-7 of the 10 gears and of course since it has 10 indexed shifts they do not match.
I am using a Shimano-CS-5700-Cassette-10 Spd-105 11-28t cassette and SRAM PC1031 10 Speed Chain.
I have checked the travel screws and they are adjusted to cover the full span of the cassette.
If I give the cable a manual tug in the bottom gear on the shifters the gear changes correctly to the bottom gear on the derailleur.
What could the problem be?
I thought these things were mix and match?
EDIT: Mybad - worked it out already. SRAM use a different pull ratio to Shimano so I need SRAM shifters if I want to stick with the SRAM rear derailleur:
like the SRAM 500 TT 10 speed Control Shifters. Please advise if anyone knows of a less expensive alternative.

Throw the stick!!!!
Glad you figured it out. There is an adaptor you can use, here is a link to it. https://jtekengineering.com/shiftmatestraight.php
