New drivetrain upgrade today
I have been plagued by a bike over 20 lbs for some time and wanted better gearing for climbing hills without having to drop to the small ring on a triple. I have a 2007 Scott Speedster S30 that I upgraded the wheels to Mavic Ksyrium Equipe which lightened it up a little and gave me a stiffer, faster, and smoother ride. I decided to go a little better and upgrade the drivetrain from the Shimano 105 I had on it. So I ordered a Shimano Ultegra rear and front derailleur, and an FSA Gossamer Pro compact double crank.
The crank went on with ease as well as the rear derailleur. Since I had a triple crank, I had a triple left shifter. I set it up to the double crank by using the 1st and 2nd positions and setting the outside limit screw just right to allow it to work without going into the 3rd position. It worked great! It shifts smooth and is now another 1.5 lbs lighter. As soon as I get the carbon seatpost Friday, it will come in at 19 lbs, which isn't too bad for an aluminum frame. I have a set of carbon brakes that I want soon that will bring it down to 18 lbs. All in all I am very pleased. It rained today so I wasn't able to get out to ride, but I will first thing in the morning.
She looks like a brand new ride.

Looks like a good upgrade choice for you. The first ride will tell the tale, though. If you got the ders dialed in you are probably good to go. Wheelset sounds like a big improvement, probably your best investment out of all the upgrades. Best of luck with the weight weenie stuff.

Throw the stick!!!!
Looks great! For the brakes be sure to check out Planet-X CNC brakes. They weigh in at 205 grams for the set and they are currently on sale for $95. I have them on two of my bikes.
Here is a link to them. https://shop.titusti.com/product-p/bcpxulcnc.htm

Thanks for the link to the brakes. I was looking at a carbon set of tektro that weigh in at 148g for $120. I like your price better though.
As for the cost of my stuff. I got the derailleurs and crankset for $287.18 which included overnight shipping from Pricepoint.com. No labor charges as I do all my own work. I have become a whizz at dialing in derailleurs after building well over 20 mountain bikes and a few road bikes.
I have had the wheelset for a year now, but bought them from Nasbar.com for $220 shipped. I am always hunting for a deal. And you are right, the best upgrade anyone can do is buy a good set of wheels. I put the stock set on my hybrid for just having fun around town.
And the final hoorah! I rode a 27 mile route today consisting of a few tough hills and destroyed my old time by 12 minutes! I think I made a good choice on the setup. The only other thing I would do is get a lighter carbon crankset and carbon wheelset to really drop the weight. But as of right now, I am more than satisfied. Ride on!
