yes, because black football players would never take steroids or anything. wtf
I have a high level of confidence that my description fits the profile of the guy in question in this thread. |
BikeRadar said in an article that the GFNY promoters decided that with $100,000 in prizes they would foot the bill to have USADA test for PED's (approx. $17,000). Their entry form had a notice on it and they had to sign that they would accept the tests both after the race and a random group selected at their home without notice as the USA Cycling calls for.
BikeRadar article:http://www.bikeradar.com/news/articl...ew-york-34711/ Pretty sad that this guy and the other person caught had to stoop to doping, Amateur races are not worth this crap. |

Since when are black football players cheating in an amateur bicycle race? People cheat in all sorts of endeavors for all sorts of reasons, but it takes a special type of ego to cheat to win a T-shirt or a $3 trophy.

The motivation to cheat in an amateur contest with little at stake beyond personal satisfaction and accomplishment is definitely related to an egotistical "win at all costs" mentality. Guys like that usually display that attitude in other facets of their lives, where everything is a competition they have a need to dominate. Pro athletes cheat for a lot of reasons that may or may not apply to amateurs.

On a lighter note, is taking the little blue pill doping?
What if it is for a "genuine" affliction like ED? Mark |
Viagra is on the WADA list.
You would need to get a TUE for it, but it's probably unlikely that they'd issue one for it. |

This is not such a "little" thing. It's the driving force for all competitors. As it concerns pros, money/fame comes WITH that accomplishment, it doesn't supplant it.

This may explains why I am constantly getting dropped here in NY...or maybe it's the extra 20lbs I gained over the winter

But when you cheat, there is no accomplishment.

It's the word that you choose in describing the mentality of these competitors. You want to choose a different word, feel free. Otherwise, stop being an argumentative prat that thinks s/he knows verbal judo because you think that you can discount an entire statement by driving a wedge in to one of its words.

In all fairness, I couldn't beat gsteinb today if he was towing a piano up a hill.

Just because your moral compass works doesn't mean everybody's does. |

Considering the fact that the person who has to be satisfied is the guy who's doing the doping, I'd say your ability to judge that is zero point zero. Clearly the guys that dope often view this differently, at least at the time that they commit the doping offense.

The best response to this:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OVPkfBMOua...icture0003.jpg You really have to laugh at these ridiculous twits who think amateur bike racing is worth doping for. |
That EPO **** can friggin KILL you. Seriously. It can and it will. You have to have a screw loose to do that crap without serious medical supervision. On the pro side they often have that, and they are doing it to keep a job that pays them serious money and to try to sustain a pro career. Hopefully that latter motivation has faded as doping is getting less tolerated in the sport. That is my general impression, at least on the UCI level, and I hope I am not proven wrong. But even with some of the doping busts in recent years there are strong indications that the UCI may be getting a handle on this at last. I really, really hope so.

Yeah, but you were saying that they don't get anything out of it because it's cheating, and I don't think you understand the mentality at play here. People can rationalize anything they do, hence my own involvement in amateur music.

But unless you are somehow cheating other amateur musicians by playing really bad music, it's OK to revel in your own self-delusion.
