Adverse affects of piss-poor equipment?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Adverse affects of piss-poor equipment?

Man I tell you what, my equipment really slows me down sometimes.

My bike weighs at least 17 lbs.

My Reynolds 66 wheels alone are a hefty ~1700 grams.

Ultegra mechanical shifting...

etc etc..

Surely Id be faster with better equipment, wouldnt you?

Couldn't you say the same thing with a 22lb bike, Bontrager Race wheels and Tiagra shifting? How much faster do you think you are with your currrent setup over that?

Seems like equipment is just one long realm of quality vs. price and everyone chooses where they want to jump in. For some Shimano 105 is the minimum and Ultegra is unnecessary. For others it's DA or nothing.

Have you weighed your water bottles? I made a huge change when I went to space-age polymers. Also, switching to carbonated water helps a lot. All of the bubbles take up less weight.

Tell me about it! My Sora/Tiagra group takes at least 2-3 mph out of my average speed. The aluminum bottle cages take another 2mph out. Hell if I had a better bike I would have just crushed Wiggins in the TdF.

I upgraded to Red, but I still can't go faster than 182,000 miles per second. I need to go back in time and stop Einstein from making that stupid speed limit.

Sigh. Incorrect. You used the word as a noun not a verb. btw, "Ha" means not to take it seriously.

Affect

A noun meaning “mental state”: “In his report, the psychiatrist, noting his lack of expression or other signs of emotion, described his affect as flat.”

Effect

A noun meaning “the result of a cause”: “The effect of the lopsided vote was a loss of confidence in the chairman.”

To make it even more complicated: The drug was able to effect a change in his affect, but it doesn't usually affect things like that. Check the list of side-effects.

Try cutting off those little rubber "whiskers" on the sides of a new tire. It'll decrease wind resistance and shave off a few mg.

Bollocks. You can go at least 4000 miles per second faster before you hit that limit. Go do some intervals, lose the stomach, and quit whining.

I hear ya. I'm thinking of getting a Ti rack instead of my Al one. That'll cut 11oz from my steed. Or am I supposed to convert that to grams for an even bigger savings?

The valve cap on tubes are also totally unecessary. Also, any logos and branding on the frame can be sanded off. Plus, cable that extends past the pinch point is just added weight.
