Sugoi Evolution Bib Review
 

I purchased a pair of Sugoi Evolution bibs two months ago, and thought I'd share my thoughts on them.

Cost: $110 (best price I could find, many places were $120+)

Sizing: Close to what I would call "true to size" or at least the same as other brands I use like PI and Voler.

Fit: The leg grippers are a bit snugger than other bibs (which is better than being too big). The leg length is on the long side compared to other bibs. Overall fit is excellent.

Chamois: Excellent. Runs on the thicker side, but is very, very comfortable. These are now my bib of choice for any longer rides. With other bibs on a century ride, there would always be a point where my butt would hurt. It would last about 10-15 miles, and then go away, but with these bibs, there is none of that, even in warmer temps.

Durability: It has only been two months, and once I realized how much I like these, I have only been using them for my long weekend rides. They have held up very well though so far....no signs of fraying, wear spots, or anything like that.

Overall: For the money, the best bibs I've ever worn. I'd highly recommend them. I'll run cheaper bibs for my commute and shorter rides, but for long rides, these are definitely my go-to bibs.

I searched online and found them for $110 (Ebay, I think), but actually bought them from my LBS for the same price.

A quick search on Ebay shows some for $95 right now with free shipping....so even better than what I paid.

I paid $110-ish for Sugoi RS bibs on Ebay a few months ago. They are size L and they fit smaller and tighter everywhere than my Castelli duran bibs. I don't have Voler or PI bibs to compare. The shoulder straps are marginal, and if were any taller I would need XL. (I'm 6'0")

The Sugoi chamois is the most comfortable thicker chamois I've used; not sure if your Evolution model has the same chamois as the RS. Castelli's KISS chamois is much thinner and more comfortable to walk in, but not more comfortable after an hour or two on the bike.

The material is thicker than Castelli everywhere too, which makes me sweat more in the summer.

I've had my RS bibs for 2 months now and I love 'em. The chamois is a little thicker than most of my other shorts but it's also more comfortable on long rides (I have a pair of descente bibs that have a much thicker chamois). I'm 6'2" and the XL fits fine but IMO the shorts are shorter than I'd like - the site reports them as having 8" inseam. 9" would be better IMO.

The lycra is very supportive and I don't seem to have any excessive sweating problems even in 100 degree weather here in SoCal.

What i'd like to know is what's so much better about the RSE bibs that makes them worth $170 or so. Anybody know?

That's a good question. I can't say for Sugoi, because I don't have any of their high-end shorts (gf has the RS shorts).

But I do have Castellis. And I actually like the endurance shorts ($180ish retail) better than the Body Paint ($250 retail). In fact, if I could sell my body paint shorts, I probably would.

I've held the RSE in my hands but I didn't try them on because there was no way I was going to buy them.

The panels are a bit different which makes fewer (or maybe zero) seams anywhere your saddle makes contact. Kinda neat, but the rest of the bib seemed identical to the RS. Same upper, looked like same chamois, everything.

The chamois are fantastic. Nice solid feel but not thick. One thing that I am not a fan of is the thick silicon leg grippers they love to use. Not the most comfortable design for me as I have larger quads.

If you wear a small like me and want the all black then the RS bib is only $63.97!!!! I just bought a pair :)

Sugoi seems to run a bit smaller than PI, at least in jerseys (base on the ones I've tried on). And it seems like their sizing chart bears that out - they have 42 as a 3XL, where as PI is a 2XL in that size. But the review is still helpful, thanks.

IME Castellis run a bit larger than Sugoi bibs.

The Sugois, Giordanas, and now Assos that I've had seem to be about the same size.
