Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2003 105 Vs 2012 105?

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the difference between the 2003 105 (specifically the derailleurs and shifters) versus the 2012 105 hardware.

Thanks a ton in advance.

9 vs 10 gears in back. Brake/shifter levers are totally redesigned and both cables run under the bartape. Derailleurs aren't wildly different.

The brake hoods are also smaller on the 9sp 105 stuff. I have average sized hands and find the 9sp 105 hoods to be small.

The other big difference is that the 5700 shifters only shift 2 cogs for the rear compared to 3 per swing of the large arm
