Addiction - August 2012 addition

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What about USA Cycling, knowing this is a clear issue in amateur bicycle racing, instituting a program of roving doping control? If they did so, amateur racers would never know when they might be asked to pee into a cup, and refusal to do so would be tantamount to an admission of guilt, similar to refusing a breathalyzer. Surely they can find enough money in their budget to address this considering its importance to the integrity of the entire sport.

Not for nothing, but there is NO DOPING CONTROLS for the most part on amateur racing now, so anyone who wants to dope has little fear of consequences. A program like the one I'm proposing would certainly catch a few dopers and might pretty much clean up our end of the sport.

You do have to wonder if this highly publicized Grand Fondo incident has them considering that in Colorado.

I would support this. It won't stop the out of competition doping (which is probably the biggest deal here--testosterone analogues) but would help curtail the crap that happened with Anthony.

State Income Tax. TN is lucky enough to only have state income tax on interest and dividends.

I thought zero sales tax was great when I moved to Oregon, 'til I figured out they were taking my money before I got a chance to spend it.

No income tax here in WA, so I try to spend all my money on groceries, which aren't taxed, mostly.

Marijuana is on the banned list. Do you want to see mountain biking disappear as a sport?

I didn't know it was a sport. I thought it was more of a mobile party situation.

You have described 99% of USA Cycling race license holders.

I'm in the 1%.

Some are born mediocre, some achieve mediocrity and some have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Mediocrity is under rated. Without it, who would people like gsteinb dominate?
