Addiction - August 2012 addition

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why don't I have a yellow jersey? Who do I have to blow to get one around here?

They gave me that red star.

I've got it's brother. same colour Diamond Back Ascent. Picked it up from a dump recycling centre for about $15. Spent more on it snice. It's currently fitted with front low-rider racks, rear rack, Brooks B72, mudguards and a B&M 12v Dynamo light system. Makes a very capable heavy duty commuter. It's in line for some drop bars.

Kind of like a Surly Long-Haul Trucker on the cheap.

An RL-20 without 400 Flites? Blasphemy.

It's in better shape than my poor Lazer-Lite though. it spent a winter in a shed where we kept the pool chlorine, and all the chrome got chewed by chlorine fumes.

I should strip and rechrome that bike. We had some good times together.

I am disappoint in Murse. You can do better.

How helpful is a power meter for a TT? Can't you just put yourself in the LT zone by feel??

Damn that sucks. At least your Garmin still works. Just keep your HR over 200, and you'll do fine.

Very important unfortunately. The first half you feel great and put out much higher power than the second half. I am bad enough at pacing with a pm, without it it's almost guarantee that I will blow up.

Don't use a hr monitor so I can't even go by that.

Yes but I lose my Zipp disc if I go with the powertap wheel. I have another quarq on order that is "supposed" to ship tomorrow.

Good luck. FWIW, I think having power is worth more time than having a disk. I'm doing CCTT on Saturday... and coming down with a cold my wife brought home from a trip right on cue. icard:

Since it is a TT, why don't you time others, or examine Strava data for the course, and split it up in segments, and keep track of your time at certain intervals. You know you could ride a bike before you had a Quarq right?

I've done the course before. I want my quarq!!!!!

Also, just because you don't appreciate the value of a power meter doesn't mean I don't. I rely on my powermeter, that is why I bought them. If I wanted to ride like they did in the 50's I would ride one of your bikes.

I know I ride a lot harder on my Trek with my iPhone attached. Knowing how slow I am going makes me go harder, and having HR lets me know how much harder I can go. Having data is a great thing. I covet a powermeter quite a bit. However they are heavy, and just a Quarq spider for my crank, cost the same as your complete crank. For that reason those idiots can bite me.
