Addiction - August 2012 addition

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tell it like it is, brutha!

I haven't bought anything except Toyotas since 1977 when I got sick and tired of 'merican cars nickel-and-diming me to death. Repair costs are secondary to the lost time and aggravation involved in getting a different bs piece-of-crap part fixed every month.

"sex appeal" and "cool" just aren't worth the aggravation.

I'm hoping for an outstanding Toyota ownership experience. Everyone else seems to have one.

I've had about a dozen 'yotas, only one problematic one. 1996 Camry had some weird electrical gremlins, lights would dim intermittently.

I did have a very positive Ford ownership experience with two Explorers and a F150. Chevy, Jeep, LR, not so much. Audi TBD. I predict after the first non warranty A4 repair, Audi will fall into the not so much category.

The one occasion I strayed, I got an Acura Vigor but was disappointed by several un-Honda-like premature problems. Dumped that after 2 years and went right back to Toyota.

Audis are like VWs but the parts are twice as pricey.

My BMW experience was exceptional until my 5yr bumper to bumper warranty ran out. Then I needed something fixed. 6 months later, the car was sold. That is why I will lease my next German car.

LAJ told me a couple years ago not to buy the A4. It's my wife's car and it was sweet looking, so I didn't listen. I imagine I'll pay for it.

At least it's nice to look at.

I looked at some used Tacomas during my search. It was amazing how well they kept their value and how quickly they sold. Couldn't tell if that was just a Colorado thing.

The bank (or similar institution) damn sure WILL be worried about their car and will require you to carry comprehensive insurance 'til they get all their money from you.

Couldn't get them below $1800 on the rims. Disappointed, they'd have looked great.

Went with Ally bank and got a better deal than VW financing, 4%. I put a good chunk down, and plan to pre-pay when possible, so I feel OK with it. And gladly I didn't get completed screwed on my 2010 lease with 58k miles.
