Addiction - August 2012 addition

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just received the e-mail with the Tuesday night TT race report.

Here are the Race results:

Merckx division.

1 - Barry - 25:13 (310 watts??)
2 - Matthew - 25:27
3 - Dave - 26:10
4 - Dustin - 26:19

TT division.

1. Bruce - 23:49 (288?? Watts)
2. Jeff - 24:01 (315?? Watts)
3. Phil - 24:03 (275 watts--260 down/290 up)
4. Quinton - 25:26
5. Bob - 25:35
6. Kevin - 26:08
7. Steve - 26:09
8. Billy - 26:22

Race Report:
Conditions were windy and humid. 82 degrees at start according to my car thermometer.

It rained right before the race. The pavement was slick on the way down, no problem on way back up.

TT race was interesting. Jeff was 315ish watts; Bruce 288ish; me 275. Bruce outweighs Jeff by 20 pounds--shows the importance of position! Conditions were tough due to some wind and the humidity. I was 27 seconds slower on only 7 fewer watts than our first race--it was a tough night due to the wind and humidity. Kudos to Bruce--stud ride on a tough night. And he's on a new bike so he had some shakeout positioning issues. Really, just a good ride for Bruce. Good first effort by Jeff. 315 watts is pretty strong and he is riding an IM position.

Merckx:
IMO, ride of the night was Barry--25:13 on the roadie. I was surprised he beat Matthew but to be fair to Matthew this course is flat and really disfavors a light rider. Merckx division is going to be where the action is in August.

August TT: sometime between 8/21 and 8/23. Start at pool, down to store, turn around, all the way to the back of the Forest. Sufferfest! And a great course for the roadies with heavy emphasis on climbing ability.

I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Can’t wait to do it again

Since i get so much smart advice in this thread, help me with my dilemma. There is a typhoon tomorrow and the whole country is shut down. Do I brave the dangers and go for a bike ride along the river or cower at home watching tv?

Where did they get that massive trophy? Trophy Warehouse? How cheesy is it in person?

Just so you know, the only cycling trophy I have is 4" tall and it is also quite cheesy.

One of the guys (attorney) had one of his minions go out and get the cheesiest trophy he could find. I think he did a pretty good job.

The trophy for the Merckx division (non-aero) is right at 4" tall. It is all in good fun. I will have to turn the trophy over to the next winner in a month. I'm wanting to get online and find a new top for it, I'm wanting to replace the boxer with a pole dancer.

I'm holed up at my house. The United State of America's dictator is 2min down the road giving a speech. Since I could care less about his empty rhetoric, and more about the fact that this morning he landed at a National Guard base, he has ordered to be closed. I at home doing laundry preparing for another 4hrs+ ride on my bicycle today.
