bike locks
looking for a good bike lock, dont plan on it being locked up for long periods of time but i want to feel safe when my bike is locked up and ideas?

Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit with a beefy cable for the wheels.
Overkill, and I hate bringing it with me because it's so damn heavy, but if I HAVE to lock my bike up, I'd trust it to do its job. It's a bit limited to what you can lock to (mini u-lock vs. standard u-lock), but that just means it's more effective at preventing the lock from being leveraged.
Kryptonite also has theft insurance on their higher end locks; haven't read up on anyone having to use it though.
**Bonus** I love the fact that I could bludgeon a would-be thief to death with the lock itself!

Consider a beefy chain. You can sling it over your shoulder and works as a better weapon than the U-lock (kidding!)

elcruxio i seen some likes like that also for around 150 but 16 pounds thats more than my bike lolz that would kill my shoulders on long rides

It depends on the circumstances, only you know what will make you feel safe. Just about any cable lock will deter the casual passerby who might be tempted to ride away on the bike or throw it in the back of their pickup. Somebody with the intent and equipped to steal a bike can defeat any lock in a minute or two. There are a lot more of the former than there are of the latter and continuum in between. It comes down to a matter of probability. Considering the area, the amount of traffic, and length of time, what's the probability somebody the intent and capability to defeat the lock you chose will happen by? No matter what lock or where, somebody eventually will, given enough time.

For their smaller locks, they come with bike mounts, but don't think they make one for the Fahgettaboudit, short of anything DIY/custom. It's a pretty heavy piece. I only bring it if I'm gonna be out all day and have my Camelbak to carry it in.
FWIW, messengers use the smaller locks and either mount them on the bike or carry them in holsters/on their belts/pockets.
