Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

College cycling club

I have just transferred to a new school which does not have a cycling club so I was thinking about starting one. Of course my thinking about starting a cycling club at a university brought up some questions but I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips or suggestions when it comes to this.

My first thoughts were something along the lines of a group ride every other week and then doing some sort of cycling event to raise money as the clubs community service project or whatever it might be.(i.e MS 150)

Best thing to do is poll around and get a sense of what other people want to do. Some people may want to race, some people may want to ride casual, some like mountain biking, others road biking, etc. Figure out what the demographic is, have a meeting, see what people want.

Do you want to have a more social club with group rides and outings or a race oriented club that concentrates on the training aspect? As said above decide on the demographics you have there and then work on a frame work for the type of club you and the others want to have. Best of luck, I am sure others here have actually done this and will reply soon.

Thank you guys for the reply.

The more insight and ideas I can get the better because I am still very unsure.
