Professional Fit
Hello,
I decided it may be time for a professional fitting and not just a eyeball LBS fit. To be honest I have been having a hard time finding fitters in the Montreal area, a lot of the bikke shops that carry Specialized have the BG fit. Has anybody gone through a BG fit? If so can you elaborate on your experience? Was it worth it?
Thanks

BG fit = 3 days of training in California.
It might be totally worthwhile or it might not. I would ask around to see who people are going to. How long have they been FITTING? A salesperson isn't a fitter FYI.

Having just had mine done... I can elaborate a little.
The experience was great... the fitting was Extremely comprehensive... All the things they measure, all the things they do (which can be found on the site). My fitter determined that i had a functional hip length or leg length disorder. Meaning, that my right hip is about an inch or so higher than my left. This translates into some funky **** going on on the bike... it also might be presenting itself when I walk for distances or stand for long periods of time as my hip has to rotate to accomodate the difference in height.
All in all, it took about 2.5 hours, various assessments of my flexibility, then riding on the bike while he watched my form and put shims in my shoes / insoles, etc. Tomorrow I'm going to be doing a long distance ride, and will comment on the comfort that I've received from the overall fitting.

Did you guys bring multiple stems/handle bars to the fitting? I am going to try to get my new build close but I don't know protocol on that.

No, I went with the knowledge that they might have to change my ****; and if they did I'd pay the cost for the new parts... instead of trying to account for all the possible parts ahead of time.

I had a similar experience. I'm not really a fan of pro fitting, or at least not convinced the results justify the cost for every rider (or maybe I've just been lucky setting my bikes up...). But I got a fit certificate as a gift, and it was interesting. I'm in my 60s and have run, hiked and cycled for nearly 50 years without realizing that one of my legs is longer than the other. The fitter picked it up right away. As it turned out, it didn't change anything, but it does cause trouble for some people and it can be addressed.
It's not necessarily that my legs are of different lengths... Because they're not (measured). It's that when I'm standing straight up, or lying flat... My left leg is shorter than my right... because my Right hip is it's hard to explain pulling the left leg up. So... when I stand up, my left hip rotates forward and down or something and no more leg length discrepancy.
I need to goto a physical therapist and talk to them about this, because I do believe this might be what's accounting for my pain in my left leg that feels like sciatic nerve pain.
Even if I had my bike dialed in for me, just learning this little bit of knowledge about my body IMO was well worth the cost. I had spoken with my general a few times about it, because it's significant when walking for a long period of time or standing for a long period of time... We could never really pin it down; so eh.
