'06 madone 5.5 pricing suggestions
Greetings, first post.
I'm looking and an 06 Trek Madone 5.5 that is on craigslist. Its a full Dura Ace and its priced at $2300. This seems a bit steep to me but I'm looking for suggestions as to a fair price.

This particular bike is a 62cm which is hard to find. Anyways any suggestions would be appreciated.

That seem to be reasonable fom neck of the wood. Remember that year the 5.2 above series are all mad in USA and with the highest carbon layers. Good luck

I think it is too high. I assume it is DA circa 2006. I would not put a huge amount of value on a six year old carbon frame with a known problem of having the bottom bracket threaded shell falling out under hard riding. No more than $500 for the frame with a careful inspection, plus whatever you think the DA groups set is worth.
To put the pricing in perspective, in 2007, for a new copy of the 2007 model of this frame outfitted with Ultegra, I got a price of $2200 under an end-of-year discount.

I think that's a bit steep. I paid $2000 for my '06 Madone 5.2, when new. It was a leftover prior year bike that I bought in the summer of '07.
Check ebay for the going rate but I think $1500-1700 range would be about right.

Brian, I was in the hospital when you posted about your BB failure, and missed it. Crazy.

Thanks for all the responses. I thought it was a bit high, although i did not know about the failure. The only reason Im really looking at this is for its size (only one in Denver) right know. I needed some reassurance that if I didn't buy I wouldn't regret it. I might look at a new 4.7 or wait till end of year sales.
You guys are awesome, thanks again

I got the 4.7 frame on warranty (from the failed 5.2 frame I referred to above). Nice frame. Builds into a solid bike, and the failure mechanism of my old 5.2 frame is no longer present. Technologically, it is almost identical to the 2006/7 era 5.x Madone frames.

Came here to post this. Looking on ebay, frame and fork sold for $440. Whole bikes selling for $1000-$1500. My recommendation is take a whole bike price and subtract out the price of that $440 used frame. Pay for the components, and assume the frame will fail and has no value. So, I'd drop the price by $900 or so (It's way too high to start with at $2300, and it doesn't take into account the failure with no warranty).
That really goes for any carbon frame. Just don't buy carbon used and expect a long and happy lifetime. Great material; easy to abuse.

Well it was a no-go today for the craigs bike. I will continue looking and saving at the same time. Might just go for a 4.7 new during end of year sales.
