Brooks help, please
 

I'm brand new to Brooks (B-17 Imperial). My LBS left the laces in the saddle when they built the bike and I didn't remove them. Is that going to inhibit the comfort and conformity of the saddle? Thanks in advance.

Keep it laced.

If Brooks took the time to put holes and laces in your saddle why do you think you should take them out?

Brooks makes it pretty clear that the laces and holes are for reshaping the saddle after it loses it's shape. The laces were sitting loose in the box when I got it. My question has to do with the saddle's ability to conform when laced. Is it a disadvantage to keep it laced? If you don't know the answer, no need to reply

WTF? Laces are for footballs, not saddles.

No. You should be able to unlace it. All that I've seen are unlaced.

However, why not email Brooks? They have great customer service.

Some people don't like how the sides might spread out as the seat breaks in. Thus the laces. I never thought of the slight spread to be unsightly nor do I feel that it affects comfort.

I lace all of my leather saddles because I prefer the narrower skirt and like the additional firmness that this provides. I do it on older saddles to help them to regain some of their original strength. I've not found that this adversely affects the comfort. To my feel, the shape is improved. But as is often said here...saddles are a personal thing.

To the OP, no need to fear the laces. You can remove them and try it out. You can replace them and try it again. You'll find what works best for you.
