Painting my Chainrings
I Want to paint my chain rings black, or at least the outer ring. I was considering painting my cranks but i realize the paint would rub off in no time.
Does anything think this is a really bad idea? I was thinking of just rattle canning the rings a matte black. Maybe hit it with a primer to protect the paint.
I realize the paint will wear out on the teeth pretty fast but Im pretty sure it will stay on the rings for a while.
Thanks for the feedback.

probably be almost as cheap just to buy a new black chain ring.
Spray paint will chip off pretty fast. it might stay on some parts if you make the surface of rings rougher.
BTW Chains rings usually arent all that expensive.

It's not a good nor a bad idea. It's just an idea and entertaining them or not is a matter of choice, priority and time on your hands. The stupid feeling comes in later after much deliberation and growth, when you look back and think..."hmmm...WTF did I do that for?"
Spray paint away. Prep it properly and make sure there is absolutely zero contaminants on the surface. Use the kind they use for painting automotive brake calipers.

Use XIM 400 bonding primer after a light scuff-sanding. It's nasty stuff, but it will stick to just about anything and, in turn, give your paint a good surface to grab on to. Automotive touch-up paint or the caliper paint mentioned above will probably be your best options for top coats. All of the above are available in rattle cans.
