My Veho Muvi setup
 

Got a Veho Muvi (camcorder the size of a AA battery) to play with. I set it up to film facing the rear, hopefully if/when I'm a victim of a hit-and-run (there have been a couple in my area this year) I'll have some evidence.

Here are a couple of clips from today's test. Note the ferocious canine at the end. Very scary.

Pretty good, too bad no front plate on the 2 trucks that passed you. Would like to see a sample of clarity to see if it's even legible.

How's battery life?

Yeah - not a lot of front plates around here. But it's a small town, and a clear pic of any local's vehicle would prob be enough. Battery life is about 90 mins, which is enough for most of the rides I do around here. For $44, I can't complain.

Could also be cool to show the shocked faces of fellow riders when you ride off the front, and their pain as riders try to bridge back up... :D

There any way to extend the battery life - make it video only, for example?

Not that I know of. I might carry two and just swap them on longer rides.

might be able to use one of those usb battery charger packs in your jersey with a usb cable to the camera. Unsure if they work while plugged in.

How often do you find the camera pointing at the sky as you ride on the drops with your head down. With my luck I'd get whacked while doing that & get no picture.

Sure, except I don't use one. The clip that comes with it is pretty versatile - you could attach it to almost anything.

But the dogs are vicious. It's a good thing their legs are so short.

I'd rather point it forward. Bikes don't get rear-ended nearly as much as we get hooked.

But being hooked is a lot more avoidable on the part of the rider.

Regardless, if you get hooked you'll catch his front plate with a rear facing camera. You probably need one front facing camera in the interests of completeness.

It looks like you would have been able to make out the plate if they had one, but maybe not if you were on a road with much faster cars.

LOL dog at the end made me laugh. Just be glad it wasn't a dobie :D

All I have at the moment is a gopro facing front, I am looking for a rear setup like this or even carry a cheaper pocket cam just in case a jerk is bothering me.
