Any personal Continental Supersonic reviews?
 

I have ridden Attack/Force for the past couple months, but they've lived out their awesome lives. Three flats in a row on flat contact patch :( I switched back to the GP4000s that I had a few extras of and... Man, they are harsh. Almost jarring. Same pressure and everything. Can't imagine Gatorskins!

Anybody try the Supersonics? Thinking of purchasing a pair just for race day. In the meantime, I'll use the GP4000s' til they die and switch to A/F again.

I use them on the track but I would never use them on the road.

I use them for time trials and triathlons and love them, but after 2 40ks and a half iron they're showing a lot of wear.

So basically 4 Oly's and done? I was strictly going to put them on for race days and switch back to GP's or A/F for daily riding. Any problems with overt punctures?

I also run them on my track bike (training wheels), but would never run them on the road... even just on race wheels.

They have virtually no puncture resistance and as a previous poster noted, they wear pretty hard. Sticky though!

Darn. The road conditions in the areas I train/race are a bit rough. (ie. Bumps of tar). I guess I'll stick to the A/F.

Any other recommendations regarding a race day tire?

Well, personally I generally race on tubulars.

But IMO the best all round clincher tire is the Conti GP4000S. I train on them, and if I am riding to and from a race, I race on them as well. Great tire.

The Supersonics are fine as Race-Day-Only tires.

I have a set on some Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLRs. I used them during the 2011 race season and my wife has used them this past race season. They do fine. They are definitely a lighter weight tire. You can feel how much thinner the tread is compared to something like the GP4000s. They corner pretty well and are definitely a bit more supple on the road compared to GP4000s, but are still far from tubular quality.

And the tread has not worn so fast that they haven't lasted the two race seasons.

Decisions, decisions... I think I might buy a pair of SS and A/F for backup then. If there's as big as a jump from the SS to the A/F as the 4000S, seems like I should give them a shot. I feel like the puncture protection will be adequate as long as I don't daily them according to all the responses. I mean race day is race day. Might as well test race tires and go down in levels accordingly.

Oh, and as a sign to buy new tires, my Force got mangled through its last bit of tread (could see the threads for an inch patch) and used up all my leftover flat kit supplies. Twas' a long walk home. :crash:
