The other day I was riding the MUP and had another guy (stranger) close to my rear wheel. Some woman was walking her two fairly large dogs, and the dogs would NOT get off the left side of the path. She kept yanking on them and saying "you're being BAD today!!" to them or something, but still me and the other guy had to come to a complete STOP before we could finally pass them on the left.

Because pedestrians have the right of way on the mup

I'm not surprised when anyone in full kit blows past kids on an MUP

It was at that point I decided there are exceptions to every rule so I "cranked it up to 400 w" and chased that pair down.

So you are a MUP-putz too.

Or people with dogs.

I'm an MUP putz.

Here, there are multiple signs posted with the rules of the MUP on regular intervals. The rules are:
http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/x...t/IMG_0671.jpg

Nobody follows them. I yell at cyclists who wear headphones (I wear headphones, but only in one ear so I can hear my surroundings in the other). I yell at peds who walk on the left. Even though peds have the right of way, that doesn't mean that they can do whatever they want.

I would love it if you yelled at me. That would be awesome.

DaveWC 09-20-12 01:28 PM

Reminiscent of "We're going to yell at you" thread.

Nope, not a slip -a spelling error that I caught but didn't edit cuz I liked the pun. They looked at it like a feat but really there was nothing to it. I was at my max chasing them down, put in a final kick just as I pulled up then let momentum and a very good set of wheels ( re -friction/rolling resistance) do the rest. I don't think most mtn bikers appreciate how far/fast one can coast on a good road bike with some nice thin wheels. They certainly looked dumbfounded but the episode lasted maybe a dozen seconds.

If I left the impression that I think of myself as a superman that truly is not the case. I am blessed with above avg. lung capacity and a lot of fast twitch so, on a good day, I can do mid 30 mph for about 800 yards - after which I'm totally shelled. On the other hand, I haven't a single strand of slow twitch in my legs so on an ascent that little kid would probably have no problem dropping me.

I do mostly ride on roads. At least 3 times per week. I'm blessed( again) to live in a place where the gov't still has the $ to keep the back roads fairly well maintained. So I get to do some great long rides, on good roads, with little traffic, up real climbs in the Rocky Mtn's and nice scenery to boot. But somedays, when work runs late and I can't get out of the city I take to the MUP just to get my legs spinning and heart rate up a bit

Oh, sorry, you chased down a couple of guys doing 30MPH which is coasting speed for you... you are on something.

Well My Doc did back date a prescription a while back when I had a sinus infection and there was a little corticosteroid in the spray- but I have never failed a test !!! :thumb:

I don't really get the MUP hate, not all of them are the same. If someone has a long wide MUP that rarely ssees traffic why not use it? I've been on both kinds and ride accordingly. IMO mups have a time and a place, recovery rides or out with the gf.

Sometimes "people watching" is fun in Mups. Our
mup is loaded with hot chicks, some even cycling so I use it as a place to meet people and exercise at the same time. I don't always need to be training when on my bike, sometimes I ride for leisure. Still 20mph responsibly on an MuP atleast around here iis no problem.

Stop talking sense. It is frowned upon...

This misspelling was too good to be accidental. You really dialed in more RUF didn't you, Klaus?

I thought it was a good story. About like humanity and being the Lord of Justice of the MUP. And how sometimes even the ordinary citizen must dial it up to 400W to hunt those who would threaten the well being of children and the innocent bike-standers.

ticktockpedal 09-21-12 08:31 PM

Like Master of the MUP but in a good way. A law and order sense, but not necessarily incarcerating those who oppose you, more like MUP patrol for justice, but justice everywhere, not just for the MUP-ranger forbidding others to wage their dark and outlawed forces. A MUP Solo figure, dialing the Millenium Falcon up a few hundred watts.

Not to brag, but I'm very well known for my MUP racing skills.

I heard that you're the King of the MUP (I always thought that KOM meant King of the Mountain; now I know better).

There should be a rule- any thread with MUP in it's title be banned.

Nick Bain 09-22-12 08:40 PM

I passed a guy on the mUP while doing a recovery ride, when I came to a stop fro a break he cem up and was liek impressed that I passed him and he was trying like the dickens to catch back up. He had aero bars, nuff said. Also this was in eugene OR.
