HELP! I'm trying to make a very difficult decision?!? Intelligent opinions ASAP!!
Hey Guys,
My name is Jesse and I really need some help.
I've sifted through a lot of the forums and learned a lot about what looking for in an entry-level road bike.
I got a DUI back in 2008 and had to ride a bike for a while. I never stopped. I gave up driving entirely for road biking and public transit. I live in Irvine which is super bike friendly.
I have only had two bikes and both were free: (1) 70s Peugeot 2x10 and (2) 70s Shwinn Traveler 2x10
I'm looking to buy a bike and I know that fit is very important so I will have to figure that out this evening, but ceteris paribus, which of these bikes would you recommend if someone rode about 150-175 miles a week:
(1)2011 Fuji Newest 1.0 Road Bike
(2)GT GTR Series 2.0 Road Bike
(3)2012 Scattante R570 Road Bike
(4)2012 Fuji Roubaix 3.0 Road Bike
I'm getting a fitting tonight and looking to buy tonight if it's the right fit. The price as long as it's under 1k is fine. Thanks!
Please respond with an intelligent opinion ASAP!!!

You'll get intelligent responses, but those will arm you with "book knowledge" based on people's opinions. Whatever ends up being the best regarded, please ride them all and see which one speaks to you best. It's amazing how different bikes will ride so differently. I test rode a bunch of bikes one day and my favorite by far was the Giant Defy Composite 2. You may have preferred the Tarmac I rode. It's so personal that only you can decide which is the most comfortable for you. Good luck. And pix when you get it.

By the looks of the bikes you listed, I'm guessing your looking at Performance Bike? and your budget it around $800-900. I would suggest to look for bikes with tiagra or better components. Here are 3 on performance's site that are a decent bang for your buck.

https://www.performancebike.com/bikes...82_-1___400306
https://www.performancebike.com/bikes...74_-1___400306
But, like the people above have said, choose which feels best to you. Good luck with the search.

Thanks everybody... but seriously I guess my real question is: which will sustain the miles I'm going to put on it the best?

You have to step back and list your goals more specifically ("best" is very vague and subjective):
1. are you using the bike for training? Touring? Commuting?
2. what is your fitness level?
3. what kind of speeds do you wish to achieve?
4. what is your comfort tolerance? Can you ride in the drops for 70-miles non-stop?
5. maintenance: will you do all of it yourself? Or take to a shop?
6. durability: how willing are you to fix flats on the side of the road in the middle of the night in pitch darkness?
7. etc. etc. etc.
With more data, there may be some helpful discussions. There can be other models that may be more suitable for your list of needs and goals. If by "best" you mean able to go 10k-miles with the least amount of maintenance time and money, then you'd be better off looking at touring bikes.

I am a recreational cyclist, not a commuter, therefore I'm not sure if the Newest will meet your particular requirements; however, my experience with this brand and model has been good.
Good luck with your search/purchase.

All of them will without any problems. I've put over 60k-miles on my 1991 Specialized Allez Epic and it's still going strong (on 3rd replacement fork and 5th wheelset or some such).

I'm going to step away from the road bike camp for just a second and suggest that, once you're done listing the results you want, if you want a bike that's more for commuting and less about fitness, a straight-bar hybrid bike like the Trek FX or a touring bike would also be good ideas.
Personally, because I do less racing and more commuting, I'd look for road bikes with what would be called "endurance geometry," like the Bianchi C2C series, Trek Domane, Specialized Roubaix, that sort of thing.

Its too late for an entry level bike if you already have one.
