I have no love for the Leafs, except that they're one of the original six, their uniform is classic, and they've won numerous Stanley Cups. I just suggested it because the OP is from Toronto, and presumably likes them...
My local team has never won a Cup, so I don't throw stones. |

Fall is when you want to go out and take it easy, spin, let your body recoup.
Wish this style would come back. I try my best to emulate it. I'm a little more 60's British style though. http://overthebarsinmilwaukee.files....usto-coppi.jpg |
Here's what I wear in Alberta ( fall/winter)
Really Cold ( i.e. 23 - 40 F ) : - Pearl Izumi cycling pants ( no padding but lightly fleece lined - the outer layer has an almost wet suit feel) - Halti long sleeve shirt - bib shorts -retro wool jersey - arm warmers - Sugoi cycling jacket ( part of our club kit) - Heally-Hanson lycra balaclava - shoe covers Cold ( 40 - 55 ) same as above but I wear leg warmers rather than the pants and I might forego the wool jersey and and arm warmers if it's sunny and not too windy Cool ( 55- 60) same as for cold but ditch shoe covers and the Halti top and maybe the balaclava - worn with regular or wool jersey depending on conditions or maybe just a long sleeve jersey rather than the jacket Chilly ( 65 - 70 ) -knee warmers -bib shorts - long sleeve jersey or regular one with arm warmers -vest Investing in some leg and arm warmers plus balaclava is a good idea if you're going to be in cool conditions. They peel off on the go and fold up fairly small into a back pocket once you warm up and you can throw them back on if conditions change. |

Long sleeve jersey also good. I don't wear shoe covers at 30F, but wear thicker merino wool socks. |

You have to be kidding. 65-70 is not chilly, 55-60 is not cool, and 40-55 is not cold (at least in Alberta). I think you should subtract about 10-15F from these scales ;-)

There must be something wrong with me. When I wear merino wool (anything), it gets soaked with sweat after 20 minutes and then I am freezing the whole way through. I have the Sugoi Wallaroo stuff, I have smart wool, ibex etc. What works for me is the Craft Pro Zero Extreme base layer and their wind stop version.

I braved through -30C this Jan-Feb with
UA Cold Gear turtle neck Regular shorts Leg Warmer Winter Gloves wool socks neoprene shoe cover Louis Garneau Massimo 2 Jacket fall weather clothing is not even complicated. I was able to get away with regular UA l/s compression, l/s jersey (couldve gone short), reg shorts and reg gloves @ 15c. |
FYI yesterday it was kind of chilly, at least to me (43? deg F start point). I brought my jacket just in case but ended up with:
LS baselayer LS jersey (thicker than a regular SS jersey) Bib knickers (thicker than regular shorts) regular socks Booties (Sidetrax, very comfy and easy to use) Some random Pearl Izumi winter gloves, not thick at all. Some random Descente skull cap for the head (with a very well ventilated helmet on top - I plan on using a cheaper less ventilated helmet when it's colder). (wind vest) Due to my distraction I rolled out with the gloves in one hand and the vest unzipped. I never zipped up the vest - after about an hour, at a short stop, I removed it. For that time it only protected the top of my shoulders, nothing else. I got the gloves on in a couple miles. After that I was warm. My neck, usually covered, was not. End of ride temp was 50 deg? I don't really know. 2 hours of riding. |
