Beach Cruiser overtook me. What is going on!
I gotta tell this story....
I going home from work with my mountain bike and was chasing this road biker, with crazy headwind against us. I finally caught up to him. He was going fast and even faster when he saw me using him as a windshield. I believe he was trying to drop me, sometimes he would sprint to 28mph. He was then going 20-24mph.
Suddenly, a guy with a beach cruiser with fat tires over took us. I was like... what the heck is going on. I look closer on his bike I cannot see any sign of engine or electronic. It is just a plain beach cruiser with fat tires.
I was gonna use him as windshield but he was too fast and I am too tired.
Note: my mountain bike has 1.25 x 26 wheels.

You are slow.
but really who knows, one overtaking does not equate to more fitness or speed, he just had more energy than you.

Yeah, he made me look like I was pedaling with one foot or handicap. I do bike with the crits on thurs, with the guys who wins trophy in cali. They are from different CAT 5-1 to pro. But that beach cruiser guy reminds me of Cancellara.

Maybe it was Lance...
...as far as I know they haven't banned him from riding beach cruisers...yet.
Although, when this story gets out no doubt USADA will bring in some new rule banning all banned athletes from using cruisers... - a-holes.

FWIW - I'd definitely have gone faster on a beach cruiser than my last mountain bike, which was a $100 used steel Gary Fisher (great bike but heavy). I wouldn't feel the same if I were on a lightweight current-gen mtn bike with locked out fork, but on a entry level mtn bike, it's very comparable to a beach cruiser in terms of road speed and even gearing.
The one guy who always gets a rise from the crew in LA (I'm sure he intentionally rides into the path of the LaGrange roadies on Sun AM since he's seen regularly en route) is the one-legged roadie who's actually pretty fast and on a true road bike, cruising at 20+mph. It's pretty neat to see someone spinning away with only one leg!

I bike to work 20 miles one way. You live around cali, I loved to go riding with you.
I average 21.7 in 20 miles with a tri-bike that includes waiting for numerous stop lights and stop signs. With a tri-bike I usually hit 23-28 mph without stop signs, 20 miles in the morning.
No lies here. My friend is way faster than me, he hits 26-30mph, his name is deo. He competed in olympics. I try to keep up with him, I just can't. He just won 3rd in one of the california race.
And yes I do pass a number of roadbikers, maybe they are just crusing. Plus it gets too dangerous when I use fast bike (my roadbike or my tribike). Usually when I hit ocean bike lane in Long Beach, there is a lot of people from the beach crossing the bike lane, hence I take slower bike for safety.

I am telling you, the guy in the cruiser must have done that in purpose. He bikes in a cruiser and pass everybody to see their reaction. I would have done that myself just to have fun. His cruiser bike looks old too, he has those built in shifter inside his wheel. I should have chase him and take his picture.

But seriously, being overtaken by a cruiser. I have heard that there are cruiser out there that are made in carbon fiber. But he has fat tires. Seriously I look at the bike to find some sort of engine, even hidden one. ...from the look of it, nothing, just bare old cruiser. Guy must be an alien or super human.

I started chatting to the roadbike guy. He was with was in denial, saying he has some nice kind of shifters... who cares about his shifters, that cruiser bike has fat tires.

The tires are fat but were they slick? What's the highest gear on a cruiser? Passing someone for a few seconds aint that big of a deal, you aren't racing for 100 miles.
