Is it coming from an authorized dealer or a private seller?

Too bad the quality of some of these generic Chinese carbon frames are suspect because they aren't too bad looking. I'd love to use one to build up a bike for fun at a cheap price.....I'd just be afraid that it would assplode on me when riding.

The FP3 is a mid-range model and no longer a current Pinarello model. In 2011 it morphed into the FPQuattro (same crabon, new tube shapes, fully assymetric. My 2010 FP3 says "Asymmetric Rear System" on the chain stays.)
Anyway, is there enough demand for mid-level no-longer-in-production bikes to warrant fakes?
How much is the seller asking?

I'd be willing to bet that some (I'm not saying this one, no way to know) of the fakes we see come about because of the changes in frames. Something along the lines of: Old molds are discarded by the factory making the legit frames, only to end up in another factory to produce unbranded framed.

I ride with two guys who've been riding chinarello frames for almost 3 years w/o a single issue. These are frames that even have a serial # and look exactly the same as the real deal; they paid $500 a piece for them...

I have seen more fake ones than real ones. The fake ones are still very nice bikes and likely won't asplode if you buy it new. The worst thing about them is the paint job is not as perfect and won't last as long, but the carbon fiber is generally structurally fine if it has not been crashed or abused which is always suspect on a used carbon fiber bike of any kind that you don't know the history. The fake ones are cheap enough new that I would not take a chance on a used one.

When they ask you to send a postal money order or a cashiers check, you can stop kidding yourself about it being real. If you can meet and inspect at a shop then it might be real.
