Milestone ride tonight

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's great! I've been working toward that for 2 years, I can appreciate your effort.

My goal is 20 MPH for 20 miles on a flat course with no wind (no drafting or aero bars). So far I can do it for 10 miles using aero bars. When I get there I'm sure going to celebrate.

Awesome man! I am close...been averaging over 19 MPH for several rides now....regardless of elements and ranging from 18 to 25 miles; good inspiration for the rest of us!

One more bit of info. I'm 54 . I used to post a lot in the 50+ forum but all they want to talk about in there is health problems...lol. Damned geezers.
Our little group has stayed together for 2 riding seasons. We started out last year averaging like 14.5 and very gradually worked up to 20 last night. Hit 19+ a few times this year. Last night everyone was "feeling it". So proud of us and not too proud to say it.

Wait...I thought average speed didn't mean anything.

more detail please. confirmation via strava would be nice so we can ridicule your terrain or the length of the ride

Oh, and "group" ride or paceline? Inquiring minds want to know!

We're basically jealous, but want to calibrate our degree of envy.

Yeah what's the terrain like?

I live in a hilly area, 32 y.o. and still a bit overweight, and I still can't seem to break 13.5 average.

Mildly hilly. Not mountain riding. Paceline at times. 18 total miles.
I do know hills (Garrett County Gran Fondo) and this doesn't even rate on that scale. I think I averaged 11 mph on that ride(62 miles) Temper your thoughts as needed
I stopped mapping rides. Too much of a PIA for me. But I'd say 1,000 feet of climbing. Not a lot.

good job! 20mph ave. with 1000 ft in 18 miles aint shabby! And I was super excited that I broke the 15mph barrier yesterday during a 17.4 miles run w/ 1,409 ft. of climbing. Still was a milestone ride for me.
