Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any Chance We'll ever see Lemond Bikes again?

With all the Lance stuff now confirmed by USADA reports, what are the chances we'll see Lemond bikes come back again?

Greg was always outspoken about Lance doping and apparently he was right, so will Trek change their mind at all or crank up a new gig with Greg? I doubt we'll see Lemond bikes back again but wanted to see if anybody had any input on the issue. I'd love to see them back again -- always preferred them to Treks.

Yeah, everything was made by trek, but Lemonds had a different geometry and a lot more variety of frame materials (carbon/aluminum spline, steel, etc)

Oh, ok.

It wouldn't surprise me either way.

Stay tuned.

Personally couldn't care less. My first road bike was a Lemond and I never was particularly happy with it.

OTOH I have a LeMond Maillot Jaune in 853 and love it though I spend more time on a Ti Litespeed Ultimate. I do like the LeMond geometry and almost bought a Ti LeMond frame. Sort of wish I had.

Maybe if Lemond wasn't a total tool, someone would be willing to put his name on a bike. Of course, Greg's tendencies do not make business relationships with him an attractive proposition. He has pretty much sued every one of his former partners or has split on bad terms. Plus, Lemond is a loud-mouthed, washed up fatty. I really don't think there is a big market for the Lemond name these days.

From what I've read, Trek soured on the venture with LeMond for this exact reason. To my mind, the market is just too crowded already with too many names that all have the same product ranges that basically serve people's needs. And if you want custom, there are wide ranges of places for that too. Lots has changed since LeMond first came to market and the brand just doesn't fit anymore.

The reasons for the demise of Lemond bikes and more recently Lemond fitness products had nothing to do with LA. Lemond was a poor marketer.

I like lemond. I have seen him and shaken his hand on a few occasions. Just industry events. The guy obviously doesnt konw or care who the heck i am. I found him approachable, humble and genuine. Very patient with fans.

The guys accomplishments are amazing. Especially considering the timeframe.

I must also note that I noticed the latest tag line on his product at this years interbike, which will drive lemond haters and lance fans into complete apolplexy.

"the only American to win the Tour de france...."

I found it hilarious.

With the sale of Lemond Fitness to Hoist, I doubt we will see Lemond's name on any type of bike product again.

In addition he advocate relatively unique geometry and rider position, which is great for certain people but not everyone. It's hard to take that across an entire product line and try and sell to the general public

His earliest, non-Trek bikes had a so-called European racing geometry with a longer TT and wheelbase. His later models were pretty much typical of everything else out there and for a while had a slightly longer TT then the typical Treks. My Victoire titanium though, was identical in most ways to the Klein Quantum it replaced. Just not as stiff in the bottom bracket, unfortunately.

If he comes back he'll need to return (IMO) to the European geometry he started out with. He won't be a major player but could find a market.

I should point out I have a MA in a Humanities discipline not a MBA so take my opinion for what it's worth.

I'm holding on to my LeMond Croix de fer. Still love it. My Lynskey is just smoother.
Maybe it will be a collectors item. lol.

The only thing you're qualified for with a MA in Humanities is posting on BF

The bridges between LeMond and Trek are likely burned beyond repair. I doubt Greg is ready to sell his name to BD to be pasted on two year old Fujis either. So I'm not sure there's anywhere in the market anymore unless it's as a niche product.

Greg has just announced that he will sell some bike using carbon fiber elaborated from his factory. Wait and see. It should be available on 2020.

The OP has been waiting 7 years. I suppose one more year isn’t too much more.

Lemond has a carbon fiber factory? I saw a few limited edition Lemonds made at the Look factory recently. I had a Z team colored TSX, that I used to race on. Liked it, didn't love it.

I had a Chambery, carbon/alum mix. Much better ride than my full carbon Trek Madone. I hope he puts them out, almost time for a new bike.
