Helmet Sticky Labels
 

The inside surface of my helmet has several sticky labels stuck to it.

I attempted to remove one of the labels, however as I was peeling the sticker off I observed that the superficial surface layer of the polystyrene-kind-of-material detached from the interior body of the helmet.

Do you remove the sticky-labels from your helmet?

I didn't see much point in keeping them stuck to the helmet, but obviously now I'm thinking I should perhaps leave them on to avoid any superficial damage (at the very least).

I remove the loose labels but leave the one that require work to remove because i'm lazy. As long as huge chunks aren't popping off you're fine.

Unless they're blocking vents or something, just leave them. They're good to let you know the age of the helmet (which should be replaced periodically) and if you have something obscure and you race, it'll tell the officials that your helmet is CPSB certified. That may not seem like a big deal, but when the Cateye Whisper Lite (the honeycomb helmet) first came on the market, it wasn't rated by the CPSB, only the Euro agency, and so couldn't be used in US races. It's since been certified, and is becoming mainstream, but it can come up from time to time.

Beyond that, who cares? I guess as long as it's not pulling off chunks in your hair or stuck to the sticker, then have at it. I wouldn't waste my time messing with it though.

Throw it out, you've ruined the helmet.

@Dolamite02, Thank you for replying! Yes, that was part of the problem. One of the stickers had been stuck incorrectly and was therefore covering part of a vent. I peeled the sticker back a little so I could crop the sticker with scissors, so that the sticker would no longer be leading over the vent. And so the reshaped/cropped sticker is left on the helmet.

Hey, you got a helmet! What did you end up getting?

Hi cruiserhead! Yes, I did! I bought the Specialized S-Works Prevail :) I tried it out yesterday, and it feels good! I opted for for the Prevail in the end because besides the Limar Ultralight & "Ultralight +", and also the Cratoni Bullet, it's the lightest weighing helmet on the market; and that was an important factor for myself. It's also reassuring that the Prevail passes the Snell safety certificate.

I did think the "Rollsys" fit system in the Lazer helmets looked impressive but I figured that there simply isn't a single "best" helmet on the market. Each manufacturers top-end helmets has plus points against others. And it's difficult to find a helmet with absolutely everything. I thought the Prevail covers quite a few solid bases pretty well.

In the end, I liked the appearance and range of colours in the Prevail also. And I don't know of any local bike shops that sell Cratoni or LAS helmets, so I wouldn't be able to try those.

I always leave the stickers. My main reason for doing so is so in a couple of years when it comes time to replace it I can look at the sticker to see what size it is.

Nice! I like the Specialized helmets. They always kept that mouth vent in the front, from the Air Pirahna helmet days. Wish they kept the little teeth and fin! :)

How is the fit?

It's a little weird that the sticker on a brand new helmet did not peel off clean.
I think they might have used an adhesive which dissolved the EPS a little bit.

Which reminds me- Be careful which products (if any) you use on your hair and face, as some tend to damage the helmet over time.
