Does anyone know anything about Schaeffer's Moly Roller Chain Lube???
 
I have been using Purple Extreme and happy with the product, but today I was in one of the race shops I call on that a rep was giving a demo on this product. I must say it was very impressing. Anyone used this product? I know there's a lot of snake oil there but for the price of this product it seem very reasonable as I seen it work pretty good during the demo;

Have not used it but a spray can is a non-starter for me. Molybdenum disulphide is black, so lube is certainly black. Dry is not good IMO because as it's worked out of a joint by pressure and relative movement, it can't run back into the joint as wet lubes can.

This is a penetrating oil, wet lube not a dry lube.

Looks worth a shot. I've tried many, but I keep going back to Tri-Flow. I'd like to find something that works equally well that doesn't get dirty so fast.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it says, "Moly Roller Chain Lube will not attract dust like heavy oils. The penetrating oil carries the moly to the pin and bushing and then dissipates."

I assume dissipates means evaporates, kinda like WD40 (yikes!)?

Haven't found anything that works better than Chain-L installed properly and following their instructions to a T. 1000 miles between lubes and chain has barely any wear and is clean.

Try Chain-L. Doesn't get quite as dirty as TriFlow, seems to lubricate better, longer with fewer applications.

I'm sticking with multi-weight hypoid gear oil 50/50 with oderless mineral spirits in tiny drops applied to clean dry chain to be mounted, well wiped and ridden after a day or so - clean, quiet, efficient, cheap.

Cheap!

My chains perform wif nutrition AND training because me scored sooo high onna sat and soo theeere, me had more fun than you!

Purple extreme ... work better for me (raod bike in dry confdition) keep the chain quiet ad extra clean !!!

The purple extreme is specifically what you want to avoid "Once Purple Extreme is applied, the carrier evaporates, leaving a tenacious, dry, wax-like film. This non-tacky film effectively minimizes the collection of abrasive road dust, mud, salt or other particles."

Chain-l is better suited for bike chains. It's a wet lube that stays wet and has a very high tack film strength. No wax dry film can lube as good for long. There are some reviews from people who tried purple extreme and moved to Chain-l and noted that purple extreme let them down and they love chain-l.

Chain L = good. Gear oil is pretty good too. Sulfur based high pressure modifiers are responsible for that lovely aroma. I like a mix of gear oil, Motor Honey for tenacity, and OMS to thin it for application.

The chain and lube turns black primarily from wear products from the chain. Wash a used chain in a jar of OMS and put a magnet in it. You'll see the black residue attracted to and stuck to the magnet.

Of course we all know that oil doesn't attract dirt, like a magnet attracting iron. The dirt simply sticks to it.

I didn't read anything on this referring to Purple Extreme. Is Purple Extreme the same as Royal Purple , I'm not so sure it is or is it. Show me some proof that Purple Extreme has it's negative problems. Everything I've heard about the product has always been positive.

No I took it directly from purpleextreme.com http://www.purpleextreme.com/Howitworks.html looks like it's the same company though.

Show me some solid proof other than one person's negative opinion on this product. We know in all product there are worshipers, so show me some solid proof why Purple Extreme is a bad product?

Chain lube you will find a million subjective reviews either way. What I am saying is that a dry wax lube can only do so much. It has it's specific uses but it has a few drawbacks. If you can a wet lube with high tack is best. That is all I am saying.
