Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

perfect weather! but it seems my bad luck getting flats is slowly coming back.

i found a new route near me that has some hills.

i wanna practice some climbing since i might be able to join my 1st bikeforum group ride.

perfect weather... gloomy, overcast, cool temps, no rain.

oh but it seems im getting unlucky again with flats... im down to 2 extra tubes coming from 6 tubes within 2 months.

hoping there's gonna be a huge sale on tubes this black friday so i can stock up again.

Learn to patch tubes.
Also, if they are pinch flats, make sure you use enough air.

Flats have nothing to do with luck.

didn't find it on inspection. but my tire right now is still inflated from yesterday, so i think im good. it must have came off after puncturing my tire.

maybe, about 3500 miles. there's still decent thread but yeah, there are several cuts. no inner lining showing though.

I don't keep close track, but I think 3500 miles is about twice what I get from a tire, and I don't run anything smaller than 32mm (I weigh 240). Might be time to re-tire.
As another post hinted, though, there's always a reason for flats. Look at where the punctures are and figure it out. And for the love of God, buy a patch kit. It's stupid to throw a tube away for one puncture. I fix them until the patches overlap, and I've had two failures in 40 years.

Aaaaaand scene. A thread ended on the second post. But no, this thread will probably end up being 15 pages and include an interesting sub-plot involving which wheels to buy.

Luck does too have somethin' t' do with flats!

So does not running over junk... like infintesimal shards of steel belted tire wires, office staples, racoon teeth, and "it's the training, not nutrition" threads.

Oh, wait, that last one ain' sharp.

Heee!

Serious though, ahem, imo it's worth suffering the occasional flat to run a comfortable tire that rolls super well - over the armored turd of a boat anchor tire that resists flat a little better. Me might change that tune if there were more hazards where I ride! ...but I'm out there for the many thousands of miles a year and sometimes go months w/o flatting here on the Central Coast o' CA.

In Chico, a month was less likely, due to the dreaded Goaty Head.

At that weight you can afford to put some Mr tuffy liners in your tires if you're getting too many flats.
