What are the reasons for biking?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Most cyclists enjoy cycling for recreation (about 75%). Most recreational cyclists, also cycle for exercise or health reasons. Some enjoy cycling as a sport (that's about 15%). Many of us cycle as a means of transportation, either to school, or to work. Some people cycle as they work.

PS.

I like to cycle because ever since I was a kid, I've always considered it as a helluva lot of fun!

Not to mention the very real and rational fear of texting drivers wiping you out, the relative risk of which makes a great white about as threatening as a kitty cat.

I said it was an irrational fear of sharks. Don't apply logic.

I also have an irrational lack of fear of motorists. Its probably why I've been hit once.

I ride because it feels so good when I stop.

Oh crap, nevermind, that's why I beat my head against the wall.
I have no clue why I ride...it's like breathing, I've just always done it.

My son and I were watching the Top Gear and he turned to me and asked "Dad, why don't you have a Ferrari?"

I explained that I didn't have a Ferrari because instead we have a house and you and your mom and your sister and all the stuff that we need.

"Oh, okay. Well, why don't you get a Lamborghini instead?"
