Steps to ship a bike frame and feel secure about payment?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Steps to ship a bike frame and feel secure about payment?

I'm selling a Time NXR instinct frameset. I posted it on weightweennies.com and a guy PM'd me and said he was interested. asked some questions and finished up the email by saying he is interested but lives in australia but will be coming to NY between December 4-7th for business. Asking me to ship to hotel. supplied me with the phone number, address and and his name to call and confirm. I called hotel and they said they couldn't give out form just a name but could verify if I had the reservation number. I sent email back to the guy and requestion his reservation. the lobby did say that the hotel was more like an extended stay housing than 1 night apartment and it is very normal for their guests to have stuff shipped to them there.

As long as he sends me payment and I have the cash physically in my hand or in my bank account there shouldn't be any issues on shipping it out right?

Just make a detailed PayPal invoice of the frameset, and information that the buyer requested and has agreed to have the frameset shipped to a specific address.

Yeah. The guy might be legit, but you have every right to hold out for a more normal transaction.

Once you click on request money, you'll see the option to create an invoice. Its really easy to do, just fill out the invoice accordingly. You'll also see boxes for "Terms and conditions" and the other for "Note to recipient"; that is where you'll want to note specifically that the buyer has made the request to have it shipped elsewhere and not to his/her confirmed paypal shipping address.

Paypal is your best bet if he does not have an account ask him to set up an account it only takes a few days and you have the time. As soon as you get the money pull it out of your Paypal account in case he starts a dispute. DO NOT SHIP until you are paid he should understand that. You also have the option of a money order or cashiers check but these can be forged. Do not accept a check even if it clears the bank can later pull the money out of you account if it is not legit. I am not sure of the time but it is in the 30-60 period before it is absolute.

If he tries some weird way of paying be suspicious but also remember he is probably suspicious of you as well. It looks like your price is fair and he was a scammer he would be looking for something more expensive than a $1900 frame
