Thanksgiving Day Ride

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got about 26 miles with 2000' vertical in this morning. First road ride in a couple of weeks (been riding on the trainer) and I was slow! My riding partner went down on the decent and got a lot of road rash, but otherwise he and his bike survived ok. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

There was a big group ride from uptown Phoenix that did South Mountain yesterday. I heard over 300 people showed up.

That said, I was looking for something much more mellow, as it was my first ride since I did el Tour on Saturday. So I just did a solo ~59 over to/back from Ahwatukee:

For a while I forgot all about that big group ride. Normally Ahwatukee is loaded with cyclists, and I thought, "great weather, day off, what's wrong?" Runners outnumbered cyclists. But I got in a decent ride before eating way too much for dinner.

Went out with the wife and a couple of buddies. Helped my wife get through a ride that she wasn't able to a couple months ago for the first 11 miles, then turned up the hill and finished a part that I was unable to a couple months ago. Conquering 2 demons in one day, pretty awesome!

Nice 17 mile ride with my GF. Very few cars, light wind. Nice start to the day. We definitely ate it away during dinner.

Beautiful day in New England about 50 degrees. Did 2 rides. One with the family (wife and children 6yrs & 8yr old) My little guy is just off training wheels this summer. That ride took about an hour with stops and walking a few small hills. Then went out again with my wife for another 17 miles. My wife doesn't ride as often as me but is a gym rat in REALLY good shape. I thought I dominated the whole ride until the last hill before home . She blew past me and attacked the hill! I got all competitive and slammed down a gear... I thought ....but got flustered and actually shifted to the bigger ring and totally died out of energy Did the walk of shame for a little bit than rode up the remainder of the hill and turned the corner to see my neighbor watching the finish. My wife straddling her bike and smiling from ear to ear as my buddy just smiled. Great day, and grateful for my health and family .

Wife and I did an easy 36 mile loop on the tandem with a coffee stop. I must have eaten 3X what I burned later that day.

Wife and I did about 16 miles. Nice day for a ride in upstate NY, temps were in the 50's and light winds. We're supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow....

I did my annual ride to my sister-in-law's house to meet my family for thanksgiving dinner. 50 miles and an excuse to kill 2-3 hours before getting there.

Thanksgiving Day -- Rowan and I did a 32 km ride in the Lake Charles, Louisiana area ... to burn off some Thanksgiving dinner calories. It's the first time I've cycled in Louisiana, and brings the number of US states I've ridden in to a nice round 30.

Thankful for ... spending time with family who we have not been able to spend time with for 7 years. It has been very nice to reconnect, and to meet our nieces and nephew.
Also thankful for ... the beautiful weather in Louisiana which made for a good bicycle ride yesterday afternoon.
And thankful for ... a place where we can stop for a few days on our RTW tour. Travelling all the time can be tiring, and we've learned to appreciate the few days here and there where we stay in one spot.
