What colour do you recommend?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What colour do you recommend?

I am planning on getting some bar tape for my dad's bike for Christmas because his is all cut up and in need of some new tape. But I'm unsure of what colour would be safest to choose so that he likes it, looks good, and lasts nice and long. Here's the bike:

I was thinking of matching green - but would that be a little to flashy or off setting?
Maybe white but I here that gets dirty and looks awful after
Or should I just stick with black?
I could also get a few because I'm sure it doesn't cost much.. thanks.

definitely white, but if he's afraid of dirt showing, silver would be nice too.

Silver looks too much like duct tape.

My dad has the same bike, black gets my vote. Green could work but I'm not all that into colored tape.

Isn't there a rule here that mandates bar tape match the seat color?

I had white tape on my bike (a black Tarmac), but recently switched to black. The white was a PITA with not just dirt, but the adhesive also showing. It was really amazing how quickly it made the whole bike look bad.

The bike has a white seat, so I guess I'm violating some sort of rule, but I don't care.

am I really the only person who is going to suggest leaving that choice to the rider? give him some cash in an envelope with a note that it is for bar tape, and if you are really generous include enough cash for a pro to wrap them.

Hard to beat the classic black tape. It's low maintenance, ages well, and looks good on that bike. If you go for green you better be sure the color matches exactly, which may be easier said than done.

Get him black and green. He can start with the Green and if he doesn't like it, he can replace it with the black.
