finally hope for the tubular crowd
 

I have a flat. I had ridden my all carbon Di2 equiped bike with Topolino VR4.0 Trueblack wheelset , and so on and so on, (and I can go on and on and on about bike's, just ask my wife) earlier in the day.
I had taken a shower, dressed, ate, and now (I admit) have came back to wipe her down and clean the tires . I have found out that If I clean my bikes right after i ride, or within the hour. I can enjoy them even that much more when sitting amongst them. And they are always ready for me to ride.
I practice a rotation method to ensure that I don't favor any of my harem, I have 4. You don't want any of them to get jealouse! I'm dead if my wife reads that last part, She would dismember them all (my bikes) while listening to music, drinking a diet coke and humming!! And she would make me watch!! Oh yeah, back to the tires.
I had a flat! My 2 month old Vittoria Corsa CX tubulars !! The horror! The cost, and the time . I would have to purchase a new one. I tried to use the Vittoria latex , didin't work! Shot white stuff all over the room, but did not close the wound. Left it overnight, with the puncture wrapped in tissue sandwiched between the floof and tire. I tried to re inflate it in the morning, it held , for all of 10 seconds, i'm still cleaning up white foam!
Defeated I went online and found someone who repairs tubular tires. Tubular repair! His site is, are you ready? Tire Alert he fixes tubulars , opens them up, replaces the tube, sews them up, replaces the strip and sends them back to you! All for around $25 !! Need I say more? I researched him online and could not find any bad press. just accolades. I will send him my tire within the next 30min, I will inform (post) my results. I'm so Happy!

sew-up repair is a revelation to you?

I find I like white bar tape when my average speed is going to be over 21 MPH, but I think it's poser when my average speed falls below that level.

True, but it always seems a little suspicious when someone's first post reads like ad copy for some commercial product or service.

Tubular repair services have been around for ages, but it's not hard to do yourself either. AIRC it usually took about 30 minutes while watching some TV program - not all that much more trouble than it would be to package it and mail it somewhere. But I opted to go back to clinchers many years ago.

And just to let the OCP OP in on the news, there is no "tubular crowd". It's more like a small clique that meets at a Starbucks to complain about all the clincher riff-raff out there taking up their space on the MUP.

If you send your tubulars out to be repaired, do they come to your house and inflate them for you? Or do you just send them your whole wheel so they can do the glue-up and everything?

i think this is some kind of sales pitch.

No sales pitch, No degree in english, no newbee, just a fast rodie that is very happy that I don't have to repair my tubulars myself. I have been riding road since I was 14, not bragging, just fact. All bikes are carbon, one complete DA7900 with Topolino Ax3.0 clinchers, one DA 9000 with Madfiber clinchers, one DA DI2 with the afore mentioned VR4.0 tubulars, and last but not least a full suspension 29er that I use to comute to work. I have read through half of this site in the last month. and have enjoyed the topics and posts. Sorry that I didn't get to the posts for tubular repair, but i'm sure that I will get to them eventually.

I'm going to beat your infomercial. I'll sell the wherewithal on how to save money by not sending out your empty water bottles for refills. $5 on how you can save.. One time fee. Cause I'm teaching them how to fish.

My experience lately has been that the more expensive tubulars lend themselves to home repair. The less expensive ones often are vulcanized and almost impossible to surgically get into without damage to the casing. If you want to ride tubulars, I recommend the mid range tires for ease of repair. The cheap ones are better left for spares or just training.

Yeah. In the olden days I was used to sew-ups which we would repair. I have no experience with the newer tubulars but was under the impression that they were glued together and not so repairable.

Ahhh - I once rode some silk Clement Track tires on my road bike - kind of like balloon tires.
Profilgate excess, but a great ride while they lasted. The bike shop I worked at had them on the shelf when they closed and I nabbed them. That was > 30 years ago and I still remember how they felt.
