Roadie n00b--Good Deal?

Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Roadie n00b--Good Deal?

I'm mostly a bicyclist of the mountainous persuasion, but I've been considering getting a road bike for when I'm too short on time to hit the trails. A potential deal has fallen on me, but I'm too ignorant to determine if it's really a deal.

My step-uncle is selling his 2010 Specialized Secteur Sport. Immaculately maintained & ridden only in a ~1.5 mile circle around his neighborhood (albeit probably 100+ miles weekly for the last year). He said he'll sell it to me for $450. Yay or nay?

Oh & it's in my size for those who were surely going to ask.

I've had one. They're solid bikes. Pretty relaxed geometry, but it doesn't sound like its going to get ridden all too often, so if it fits, I say go for it.

There are always better deals but what you've got is a good deal. Fairly upright bike, but a good intro to road.

Upright is fine by me, it'll just feel more like what I'm used to. I still have to test ride it this weekend & see if it feels right but if it does I'll probably go ahead & get it since most everyone seems to think it's a fair deal.

I doubt you`ll see an answer to this. As far as the bike....pretty good deal, I say go for it.

a roubaix in alu, carbon fork, 9 spd
sounds like a great deal to me - if it fits...

if he's doin 100 mi/wk, check the chain for being in 'spec' (might be stretched and near or beyond 'best use' and worth replacing...)

I think $450 sounds like a reasonable price for a well maintained bike. Check for rust :-) It will be a good all round road bike. If you don't like it, you can probably sell it for the $450 you paid for it.

+1.

Sold my Secteur for $700, and had several people in contact, so the price was definitely right.
