Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice on a new bike purchase

Hello everyone,

I've checked the huge thread devoted to this topic, but since it starts in 2004 and ends with "selling my bike", i thought i might need an advice.

I'm absolutely new to cycling and wanted to get a bike for me and my gf, we have a great road along the Moselle river just outside our door, so i guess what i need is called a "road bike".

I'd also try to stay on a budget within c.a. 300 eur per bike.any advices on the model and where to buy them(e-store)?

Thanks a lot!

If you're completely inexperienced, you might be unsatisfied buying online. Check out your local shops and talk to some knowledgeable staff first.
If you're really smart, you'll just stay away from this cycling thing. It's addictive.

Everything is addictive, at least cycling is a sport

Thanks for the advice, I'd surely visit the local shop, but I'd love to learn what I could get within this budget to compare prices at least.

Your budget will be meaningless if you purchase an ill fitting bike. I buy all my bikes online these days, but I have raced as a cat1, as well as completed my coaching certification to level 2, and have lots of real world experience fitting myself and others.

Hey there Went to the local shop and that's what they have advised : https://www.berensundreus.de/trekking...eit-lc-15.html model 2010 for me and https://www.berensundreus.de/trekking...eit-lc-30.html model 2012 for my girlfriend (sorry, it's in german, but I hope you could understand from the part name). I could get both of them for 850 EUR. Is it an OK deal and what do you think about the bike?

I guess the only thing they've tried to "fit" was the size...

Those aren't road bikes, they are urban trekking bikes. Panniers for carrying loads, very upright position. Here's a pic of a road bike:
