Post your first ride of 2013

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Post your first ride of 2013

Who will be the first to post ?

I'm planning on a quick 20 around the neighborhood before heading up to Big Bear with the family

If we were still in Australia right now, we'd probably be out on a January 1 ride. It's about 11:30 am on January 1 where we live(d).

It's still today where I am. Hopefully I'll get a ride tomorrow (which is already today for some of you).

Rode 18 miles today (Jan 1st) on the snow bike around town purposely looking for snowy & icy spots. Studded tires works well!

Planned on going on a 63 or 41 mile club ride, (distance depends on who shows up). Morning rain cancelled the ride but I had the itch and got on my old road bike (2004 LeMond Nevada City) that is my rain bike and did 35 miles solo after the rain stopped.

35 lazy miles up the coast with some older guys. Barely worked up a sweat. Just what I needed after my trainer session yesterday.

3 hours at zone 2 in a rain storm the entire time. Not the most fun I've ever had on a bike, but still pretty fun.

21 miles on our annual New Years Day ride. A little chilly at 40 degrees, but not too bad.

41 miles on SART this morning, down to Portola Coffee Labs for a cuppa and a snack. It was pretty nice... lots of riders were out.

89.2km down to the coast then out to the valleys. Wasn't planning on going that far so I didn't bring food or anything.

Sad thing is I did about 10% of last year's total mileage on this ride.

28.14 km in lower mainland BC with Rowan and my father. Lightly overcast, approx. +4C, some wind. The first part of the ride consisted of a relatively strong headwind. This is one of the longer rides I've done recently ... a good way to start 2013.

Hour and a half (I don't have a cyclometer) in the local mountains. Dreary, chilly, and slow with my chest cold, sinus infection, and antibiotics. 2013 sucks.

ran 8 miles on the treadmill and it is 15 degrees with snow on some roads. Then in the afternoon road hard 40 minutes on the trainer. I hate riding on a trainer. Maybe this weekend if the roads get clear.

Did our traditional ride up our local mountain (Mt. Diablo). Pleasantly cool on the way up; really cold on the way down.

Did The Sufferfest - There Is No Try. Killer interval workout. wobbly legs and almost threw up. That's the sign of a good workout.

I did the New Year's Brevet with Lone Star Randonneurs, 130 miles. It was misting or sprinkling off and on, on the way over there, but not a drop the whole ride. It was cold and windy, but we stuck it out (I was riding the tandem). I made corn bread and chili for the pot-luck dinner afterwards, and it went over well. It was a good day.
